We had a two night stay to ensure that we had a full day of hiking. The staff were excellent and really really helpful. I always want to practice my Spanish and they were willing to let me try my best and if I got stuck they were able to help me out a little. We discussed some walks and also ate one night in the restaurant which was superb. We had the mountain stew which was perfect after a full 8 hours in the beautiful mountains. We didn't see anyone else for the whole day which was brilliant. Just watch out for the sheep dogs if you take your own dog, and keep your distance (we did).

This is an incredible historic house run by the family who have lived here for generations.
It is not a luxury offering, but very honest & traditional. For me, it felt like a privilege to stay in their beautiful old house.

Although the hotel is out of Potes town, it was an easy drive to go in to eat. The hotel is located on the main road towards Fuemnte De and is ideally located for exploring the Cantabrian Picos de Europa, with a superb walk from the village of Brez a short drive away.
Breakfasts were great quality and value at 5 euros each. Tea or coffee making facilities and a refrigerator in the shared rooms would have been great to have a drink when returning from days out.

The top choice for people wanting to get away from noise and fast-paced city life. Country houses are private homes based in the peaceful countryside, with communal facilities and meals available. Activities to unwind can be included too, such as trekking, birdwatching and cycling.

We loved the location of La Posada de Cucayo. It felt quiet and tranquil, with lots of options for beautiful hikes up into the surrounding mountains. The hotel itself was lovely and the owners were incredibly friendly! We felt really looked after. Their restaurant for dinners serves lovely food that is prepared using veg from their garden and meat from their own chickens and cattle. The included breakfast is more than substantial but if you want more, there is a small menu to order extras!
The staff welcomed us warmly, and went above and beyond to accommodate us during our stay. The Posada is located in a remote picturesque village, where time feels to have stopped, and allows access to a wide range of hiking paths. Tina even provided us with personalized hiking directions! Besides the very pleasant and comfortable rooms, the property features a wonderful restaurant, where we tried a variety of regional dishes with locally-sourced ingredients. We cannot recommend staying here enough, and hope to return!
Stunning location and views. Tina and her family were very welcoming and the service was exceptional at all times. This even extended to providing hand drawn maps and advice for hiking in the area. Would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from it all and would definitely visit Posada de Cucayo again. This is a very special place, none more so because of the welcome we received.
