Absolutely fantastic. The sunset views in a hot tub with sparkling wine and the sounds of birds - memories will last forever. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable. Showers amazing with nature around. Appreciated the breakfast set. Very glad we chose this place to start our holidays. Well done and kudos to the owners!

The owner has thought of everything she can to provide what you need for your stay here. Was very quiet. Great base from which to explore the beautiful cloud forest reserves.

An absolutely delightful place in a tranquil setting. If you are looking for somewhere a bit off the beaten track, close to nature, to stay somewhere spotlessly clean, comfortable and beautifully run look no further than San Rafael Ecolodge. You can easily miss the area as it’s not really mentioned in the Rough Guide, and because it’s outside of La Fortuna, it is an area you might think of missing (La Fortuna is a tourist town and was never a town before the tourism trade), but the area around La Tigra is absolutely stunning and along its many rivers it is part of the wildlife corridors linking the plains, with The Eternal Forest of the Children (the reason that Monteverde exists is the hinterland of this vast protected forest) to the Monteverde cloud forest itself. We saw the most birds and animals while staying here and had been to some stunning locations before.
Giovanni and Luis are the perfect hosts - they really do go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. As La Fortuna is nearby, we were not interested in trips to adventure parks so we asked Giovanni if he knew any good nature guides, and he delivered spectacularly.
Giovanni’s first recommendation was the wonderful Alberto, a Spanish biologist who teaches Wildlife Management at the National University, and we did two fantastic tours and walks with him Our second guide was the amazing Victor, a local biologist and great birder, who took us to Papa’s Place for some of the best bird watching we’ve done on Costa Rica (three species of Toucans at once). if you’d prefer a somewhere with a delicious cold beer on your own balcony, looking at trees, watching fireflies and listening to the frogs and insects by a stream, a lovely pool for a refreshing swim after a forest walk, and delicious home cooked food then I highly recommend staying here.
Giovanni will arrange everything for you (he takes no commission) and if it’s quiet will drive you around himself - highly recommended!
The top choice for people wanting to get away from noise and fast-paced city life. Country houses are private homes based in the peaceful countryside, with communal facilities and meals available. Activities to unwind can be included too, such as trekking, birdwatching and cycling.
Everything! Peaceful and quiet accommodation, with great mountain views and lots of birds, butterflies and squirrels all around. I could just sit on my balcony and watch and listen for hours. Bed and shower were awesome, and the kitchen has everything you need. Staff was very kind and helpful, they've helped me with my tours and activities, as well as transport to my next destination.
The rooms (with fridge) are nicely spaced among a natural setting with a great view. The rooms have a large window front, surroundings are peaceful and quiet. Nearly each morning an Aguti and a Coati family came to have 'breakfast' in front of the reception. I also heard (but not saw) moneys nearby and you can watching birds right from your room.
the owners are very friendly and helpful and organized transport, a water cooker and a heater to dry my clothes (it was rainy season). Overall I can only highly recommend.
The view was beautiful, with a mesmerizing rainbow welcoming us overlooking the mountains. The staff was great, helpful, and kind. The documentation and everything about the neighborhood, tour options, etc., are very clear. The room was immaculately clean and quiet, with a great view, providing a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We even got a free upgrade because of a last-minute cancellation from someone else.
Amazing views of Santa Elena, quiet and peaceful with lots of nature, pleasant staff and great breakfast. Breakfast changed for each morning of our stay.
Great wildlife viewing areas. Delicious breakfast served to
your table each morning. Coffee and bread pudding at 3pm! Comfortable bed. Luxury, organic shampoo, soap and lotion. Friendly, helpful staff. (Hi Eva and Emmanuel!) A peaceful, private setting but dining options within walking distance.
This was one of the nicest hostels we have ever stayed at. Rooms were really clean, the staff were really helpful and the kitchen was big, well stocked and clean. Would happily live in the room. Quiet and peaceful and not a long walk to town! Thanks for a lovely stay!
A stunning modern house with a beautiful outlook and peaceful setting. Well equipped property and comfortable beds. We loved the quiet location but the road leading up to it is quite bumpy so you have to take it slow and it's very dark at night. So we didn't go out in the evenings as preferred not to drive after dark. We ordered food in from local restaurants.
The property is in the middle of a private reserve surrounded by nature. It’s very peaceful and quiet. We’ve seen lots of animals and birds while sitting on the terrace of our cabin.
Perfectly located for all the activities, very friendly and helpful staff. We didn’t want to leave.
Christina was a great host - very helpful and good communication. The location is perfect if you want to be somewhere peaceful, close to the forest and not too far from town but not a good place if you want to be very easy walking distance to town (took me 30-40mins and tricky in the dark). The place was extremely clean and tidy and I loved being among the trees! The facilities are not luxurious but it was great for what I wanted :) would definitely go back!
We liked the deck and the breakfast nook. Breakfast was good. It was quiet and peaceful. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was just a short walk to town.
