Just an all round fantastic stay. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and they participated in making it a bit special for the day. The room we stayed in was amazing and well postioned to get the elephant and zebra passing by while chilling in the jacuzzi on the patio deck. The food was delicious, with the Satdurday night boma dinner being a great highlight while having the curious nocturnal animals pass by. What did make it that much more special is the wonderful hospitality of all the staff at the lodge!

We had an amazing visit. The tent was luxurious. Total.silence at night and the camp fire was massive. Completely felt alone in the South African Bush. You can walk for hours around the property. Henrick was a great host.

The best thing about Welgevonden is the feeling of being totally isolated. It is set into the hillside, and each chalet is far enough away from the next one to make it feel secluded. The Game drives are absolutely amazing; all the big 5 - lions, buffalo, lots of rhino, and if you are really luck leopard & cheetah - as well as hippo, giraffe, zebra, lots of antelope too. There are no private vehicles allowed in the reserve which has really helped the rhino population to recover.

The reserve is well managed but the roads can be improved, the number of predators can be increased an the sightings can be managed better, the ethical rules of not stressing the animals by reducing the number of vehicles per sighting, the competition between game rangers must be managed better which will reduce the incidents

Welgevonden is by far my favourite wildlife destination in South Africa. It is an easy 3-4 hour drive from Johannesburg, in a malaria-free area and the game reserve is scientifically and ethically managed by professionals. The animals and their wellbeing are the priority and that is exactly how it should be.
