Title: Exceptional Experience with a Small Unexpected Charge
The meals were exquisite, offering a wide variety of dishes prepared to perfection. Every bite was a delight, and I would give the food a perfect 10 out of 10. Equally impressive were the people: warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to every need. The staff’s hospitality also earns a perfect 10 out of 10. The facilities at the lodge were top-notch, meticulously maintained, and beautifully integrated into the natural surroundings, again deserving a 10 out of 10.
The real highlight, however, was the game drive. The ranger was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. Their expertise not only led us to some breathtaking wildlife sightings, but their passion truly enhanced the entire experience. This, too, was a 10 out of 10 moment, and a memory I’ll cherish.

It's the second time we go to Ivory Tree Game Lodge! We love the food, the fact that it is full board so we do not have to worry about anything. The food portions are on the smallish side but it worked for us. The game drives and the rangers are great, the staff is lovely, beds very comfy. The pool and the amenities are great as well, including the boma dinner and entertainment.

The property is in quiet harmony with the natural environment. The rooms overlook the untouched landscape as far as the eye can see. Wild animals are easily spotted from the private deck. We experienced two game drives per day which allowed us to see the Big Five in just a few days. Led by safari guide Jafari, we were able to get great looks at most of the Pilanesberg wild animals in total safety. On my final day there I made a special request for a Birding Walk around the immediate area and was led by highly experienced guide named Andre through the bush. As we walked for over three hours and 1.63 mi, we observed 47 different bird species including: Spotted Eagle-Owl, Brown Snake-Eagle, Black-winged Kite, Gabar Goshawk, and a Brown-Hooded Kingfisher. The food was prepared by a gourmet chef and was delicious. We all ate at a family style table together for meal time and great conversations.
I was here six years ago. There are much less animals.
I was here six years ago. There are much less animals. Looks like they removed hundreds animals to private game drives. It is not Pilinesberg that I saw six years ago. If you don’t want to be upset, choose Kruger.

The Pilansberg is great for Fauna & Flora. We always have good animal & bird sightings.
The condition of many of the roads is appalling and not comfortable in a normal sedan vehicle.
The Camping facilities at Bakgatla are adequate with good shade but not much grass.
However, the Chalet we used was terrible. R10k for three nights - the Aircon didn't work at all(in 37deg heat),the Stove didn't work. The Tap on the sink was literally falling off.The Fridge wasn't very efficient.
No Shower and the bath was designed for a midget & it was dirty because the surface was badly stained.
One toilet for five people - not good enough for R3k a night.

The staff and service were amazing.
The staff and service were amazing. Always helpful and polite. The manager Karel was also very helpful and went out of his way to please us. He took us on some amazing game drives.
The hotel is old and tired and the rooms are dirty. The mats by the bed were filthy and torn as well as the mat in the bathroom which also needed a clean.
The food was very average and we were also served left overs on one of the days we were there. Unless there is an upgrade to the premises I cannot see us going back anytime soon

Once one we were in the sanctuary of the Black Rhino Lodge, all was fantastic. Getting there and back by road was unpleasant. The surrounding areas are poverty stricken and the roads in a poor state.
Unforunately, there is no longer an airport in the area.

The design, location and privacy of these villas is five star. With a heated pool on the most amazing patio overlooking the Pilansberg we were able to relax in complete privacy, even seeing a hippo in the small dam in front of the unit. We also loved that we could walk within the resort (something not really safe to do in other bush villas) and make use of the resorts lively amenities … the restaurant, tennis courts, gym, boma, game drives ect. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
Well maintained lodge. Quality of meals. Helpful staff. Rangers tried their best to enable a good viewing experience for the guests. The entire team is well organised and co-ordinated.
It’s a lodge with cabins spread out over a large area - hence it could take up to 5 minutes walk to get to your cabin … guests should not expect hotel like facilities.
Just outside Pilansberg so very well positioned. Clean and fantastic staff.
It’s also so convenient to get dinner prepared. Lots of food and it was very nice including a complimentary bottle of wine and water and cold drinks .
The game guides were very knowledgeable which made the experience of exploring Pilanesberg. The general hotel team was good at attending to one's needs for comfort.
