The property was very comfortable and clean and was equipped with everything we needed. It had a lovely balcony, a spacious bedroom and living room, and a well-equipped kitchen. The AC and TV were working great, and the bed was comfortable. We only stayed one night, but I would recommend this place for couples and families for longer stays as well!

Everything is 100%, our second stay at this place.
Royal Guesthouse has spa facilities and air-conditioned guest accommodation in Mtunzini, 2.5 km from Mtunzini Country Club, 27 km from Ongoye Forest and 33 km from Amatikulu Nature Reserve.
The only thing that I liked is the Beach Trail.
The cabins need to be cleaned properly. Everything was dirty. The bathrooms were not pleasant and The Fans had thick dust as if it hadnt been cleaned in ages !

Mtunzini is a small sleepy little town on the KZN North Coast and if you looking to get away from the rat race and some downtime its perfect. It doesn't have any of the usual fast food franchises, but lots of restaurants to chose from. Not that this was an issue for me. The one really annoying aspect is access to the beach. The only way to get there is via the Umlalazi Nature Reserve and that is R50 per adult each time unless you buy a Rhino card, but for a once off visit makes no sense. Other than that is a pretty little place off the beaten track and very friendly locals

Mtunzini is perfect for the birding weekend we wanted to experience. The Dlinza Forest Boardwalk is only 45 minutes away, Ongoye Forest is not very well signposted would recommend hiring a guide but it was a very special place! The 4 x 4 track is only for serious 4 x 4 vehicles!! We even struggled in a Toyota Land Cruiser until eventually we had to turn back (with great difficulty!) as there was a large tree blocking the road!
The lagoon and Mangrove Forest Boardwalk were also interesting and the dams on the Zini Estate where Mod Pod is situated didn't disappoint!
Lovely Restaurants and Coffee Shops!

a small town close to the beach with magnificent estuary and walks through the forest. a unique habitat with abundant bird life good light tackle fishing in the estuary and off the beach. a popular place for rock and surf anglers targeting many edible species and rays. close to a number of private game reserves and internationally recognised ones only an hour from king shaka international airport. the area is malaria free and although very hot from december to march the may to july season is best for game drives in the nearby reserves with milder temperatures. worth a visit. beware of vervet monkeys they are extremely adept to borrowing on a non return basis. there are atms good retaurants and many shops to cater for every basic need whether self catering or not.

The hosts disappointed us.
The hosts disappointed us. We booked the property for 2 reasons: 1. Because how beautiful the cottage looked on the pictures advertised (that part is true) 2. The swimming pool that was advertised. My husband, myself and our 11-year old daughter stayed at the cottage. My husband was working and my daughter and I therefore needed to keep ourselves busy, which is why the swimming pool was so important to us. When we arrived we were told that we couldn't use the swimming pool because other guests had booked out the area with exclusive access to the swimming pool (when we spoke to those guests they explained that they had made the arrangement months ago with the manager, Angie, because some of the guests were patients from a hospice + some were mentally unstable; we booked 2 months ahead of our arrival, but were never informed of this arrangement, had we been informed we would certainly have cancelled). Angie was unprofessional and unsympathetic in dealing with this. We phoned the owner, who offered us access to a swimming pool about 4 kms away from the lodge in a nature reserve - when we tried to get access it (we tried twice) were were not allowed in because we weren't residents. We informed Angie about this, and her last words to us were: "We will see how we compensate you for this." We unfortunately never heard from Angie again. Something to bear in mind if you bring along a pet, is that Nguni cottage is not fenced off, so if you bring a small dog like we did along, and other guests enter or leave the larger premises (the entry to the lodge), your pet can easily get out (this happened to us). The cottage really is beautiful, but the upkeep and management isn't great: 1. The air con in the 2nd bedroom didn't work 2. The cleaners only turned up for 1 of the 5 days of our stay (when we arrived they asked if they should come every day, and we said every 2nd day was alright, but they only came once). 3. The roof is leaking when it rains.
