The road to get there was good.
We loved the views of the river from the various decks - so relaxing!
There was also a lot of animals so the game drive was nice.

This is to express our utmost satisfaction and appreciation for the wonderful stay we had at Rhulani. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm and friendly smiles from the staff, setting the tone for an unforgettable experience.
The staff's welcome was truly exceptional. Their genuine hospitality and attentiveness made us feel like valued guests throughout our stay. Their knowledge and passion for the lodge and its surroundings were evident, and they went above and beyond to ensure that we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The facility itself was nothing short of remarkable. Every aspect of the lodge was meticulously designed and maintained, creating a luxurious and tranquil atmosphere.
The room we stayed in was simply stunning. The spaciousness, elegant furnishings, and attention to detail made it a cozy and inviting sanctuary. The private pool added a touch of exclusivity and allowed us to relax and unwind in privacy, surrounded by the beauty of the natural surroundings.
The game drives were an absolute highlight of our stay. The knowledgeable and passionate game ranger (Willem) provided a wealth of information about the wildlife and their habitats, making each drive an educational and thrilling experience. The encounters with the magnificent animals in their natural habitat were truly awe-inspiring and left us with memories that will last a lifetime.
The Boma evening was a truly memorable experience. The traditional setting, the crackling fire, and the delicious food made for an authentic and enjoyable evening. It offered a unique opportunity to connect with other guests and share stories while immersing ourselves in the rich African culture.
The food and beverage offerings at Rhulani were exceptional.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire team at Rhulani for their dedication to providing an exceptional guest experience.

They have a lookout room which is built into the ground next to the water whole.. you can watch the animals from metres away, it was mind blowing:)

Difficult and bumpy road to get there when you cannot locate the proper route to Madikwe River lodge but the magic unravels as soon as you get close : the animals, the vegetation and one lonely but warm lady at the post who welcomes you to adventure!
Blissfully peaceful, Matildah gazing at you while the other impalas peer from the bushes, one cheeky monkey sitting on the roof while the invisible chirping and singing lull you to quietude, right next to the river.
The lady at the reception readily informed the Chef about my meal preferences and I was served fish, veggies and rice for dinner.
The morning safari was conducted by a guide who read the tracks in Nature and drove us to a cheetah, a napping lion, a rising rhino, munching wildebeests and 3 black rhinos not happy at visitors for disturbing their early morn routine ;), and another napping lion! We looked fondly at the baby elephant and had to be careful when a big male elephant "in mas" came our way.
It was one beautiful experience.

This reserve only allows visitors that stay in one of the lodges so their are no day tours. The guides all work together so they give eachother locations of animals they’ve spotted but than they go in turns to the animal so they don’t get overwhelmed by a traffic jam of tourists.

Madikwe is reclaimed farmland, so there are not the very large herds you may see in Kruger. Some of them are sizable - for example, they have a herd of African buffalo of nearly 500 head. One of the main draws is that it is Malaria free.
The reserve is a good 5-hour drive from Johannesburg, at least. So it is a long way, and the roads in South Africa are not always safe, so consider this - it is worthwhile checking about a flight.
The landscapes in the reserve are varied and very beautiful, there are incredible sightings to be had and there is a good variety of animals and birds too.

The two game drives via Tau Game Lodge were exceptional.
The two game drives via Tau Game Lodge were exceptional. Israel, the ranger, was very knowledgeable and friendly and was able to track down 4 out 5 of the "big 5" game. It was surreal being so close to some of the animals. Photo ops are aplenty. I have nothing bad to say about Madikwe.

Madikwe is one of the best reserves we ever visited, everything is well looked after and there are some really beautiful spots. We only stayed at one lodge, (Rockfig, which was excellent) so I can't comment on the lodges, but I believe they are all top class. We had 2 safaris per day and we saw the big 5 and a lot of other animals. Beautiful fauna and flora, trees and birds. it was a once in a lifetime experience.
