Tzamenkomst River Lodge, hotel in Colesberg

Tzamenkomst River Lodge is a recently renovated guest house in Colesberg, where guests can makes the most of its pool with a view, garden and bar.

This was just off the N1 before Colesberg and an easy drive from Bedfordview JHB. Use yr garmen for the directions to the turn-off / 1st gate entrance as the name Tzamenkomst on the stone wall is for cars coming from Colesberg. We saw Giraffe on the left side as u drive down to the Lodge. The lodge has a lovely setting facing the Orange River, the Boma for drinks and Dinner comfortable with a large fire.

Very interesting town with lots of history.

Very interesting town with lots of history. Need to apply yourself to understand the deep history of the town. I would have loved to have a guided tour around the town to understand the significance of the town in 1800's and around the time of the Anglo-Boer War.

We were there for an overnight stay. Leaving in the morning. But we got amazing meat at the OK and it was great. Good service and we found some amazing orange home made biscuits there with were delicious. Friendly staff and thankfully the store was open until 9pm. So we could get all we need for our braai. As for the town, we did not have a long enough stay to talk about. Maybe next time.

    Reception was not very friendly.

Reception was not very friendly. Would have liked more information in form of a pamphlet on the area and restuarant options. Chalet and surrounds not disabled friendly. Room was clean and neat. Spacious parking available.

Disappointingly Dilapidated, Uninformed Staff, and Mediocre Food My recent stay at Colesberg Lodge was an absolute letdown from start to finish. The rooms, frankly, resembled abandoned sheds rather than accommodations fit for guests. The disrepair was evident from the moment I stepped in, and the beds seemed to have hosted more guests than they could handle—clearly slept through and terribly uncomfortable. Adding insult to injury, the staff seemed clueless and unprofessional. The waitress was shockingly uniformed, not just in attire but also in basic knowledge and attentiveness. It was evident that there was a lack of training or care in ensuring guests felt welcomed or attended to. As for the dining experience, it was a sad attempt at providing sustenance. The apple pie I ordered was exorbitantly overpriced for what can only be described as a pitiful slice of disappointment. The food, in general, was far from meeting any modern culinary standards. It felt like a throwback to a bygone era where taste and presentation took a backseat. Overall, my stay at Colesberg Lodge was a regrettable mistake. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Save yourself the headache and seek accommodations elsewhere if you value comfort, service, and decent dining. This lodge needs a serious overhaul, not just in its physical infrastructure but also in its approach to hospitality.
