We booked the Anor Qal'a,but it was being refurbished so they transferred us across the street to the Bibihojar Hotel. It was great. Manager Ahkror, clerk Doniyor, & assistant Dinora were helpful & attentive, with good English spoken. Breakfast was fresh & tasty. Definitely a great place to stay, with a really good restaurant, Khiva Moon, literally 3 minutes walk around the corner-( turn right out of the lobby, in the opposite direction from the route out to the main street with the bank on the corner).

The splendid ancient walled city of Ichan Kala is well preserved and well kept. With plenty of minarets, mosques, madrassahs and real homes to make you feel like you have stepped back in time, the moment you step inside the open air museum that it is.
The best time to have your first glimpse of Ichan Kala is at night, walking into the main gate is a magical experience on its own.
Stay out late and the place turns even more enchanting when the lights are switched off for the night, and you are left alone surrounded with all the history around you.

Khiva is our favorite city in Uzbekistan. We love staying in the inner city and being surrounded by the historical Silk Road sites. Although Orient Star looks like a great place to stay it's nothing but an unwanted headache on a vacation. Avoid the temptation and stay in a family owned accommodation. The families all have stories of their ancestors, know the best places to see and take photos, and have wonderful Uzbek hospitality. Meros, and Nazira are two of our favorites. Watching the sunset while having a cocktail at Teressa is one of our favorite things to do when visiting Khiva.

Khiva is an amazing old town, our favourite among the four towns that we visited in Uzbekistan. Everything you need is located within the city walls. But don't miss Nurullaboy Saroyi just outside of it. You pay one ticket including the majority of the attactions within the city wall. Some towers and viewpoints are extra.

Very impresive Old Medieval City of Horezm - now Khiva. A lot is made to present the unique atmosphere of former capital. Plenty of bazar and food/restaurant options. Excelent walk, especially at night time, every photo is ready for a postcard.
Keep in mind that prices are on the high side, the place is very touristy. A day is more than enough.

Khiva is a truly enchanting city with a rich history and stunning architecture. Walking through the ancient streets of the walled city of Ichan Kala feels like stepping back in time. The beautifully preserved mosques, madrasas, and palaces showcase the city's cultural heritage. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the locals are warm and welcoming. Khiva offers a unique blend of history and tradition, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Central Asia’s past. Truly magical city.
Truly magical city. The restoration work and the thought that has gone into the pedestrianisation of the centre allow you to feel completely safe. It is a living, working museum. Do not ask me to choose between Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva - they all have unique qualities. However, I will say do NOT miss out Khiva if you visit Uzbekistan!
