Incredible place to stay and incredible host. Alexander Mansion is an experience in itself. We arrived very late but Richard was incredibly accommodating and welcoming. The hallway entrance was breathtakingly beautiful. We were offered a choice of wines in the parlour and we unwound there before heading to bed. In the morning we were served the most amazing four course breakfast. All lovingly homemade. We sat at a big dining table and had wonderful chats with Richard and our fellow guests. An experience to remember.

The location is completely perfect for the Shakespeare festival; the theater is only few minutes' walk away. We drove a long way to Winona and weren't sure when we'd arrive, so the contact-free check-in was really convenient. The breakfast was RIDICULOUSLY GOOD.

Winona is a nice town where I've been several times before over the years. If you enjoy wildlife and river views, go across the river and south about 5 miles to Trempealeau Wildlife Management Area. There is a great patio view a view along the river and many back roads to drive and seek wildlife. Saw some bald eagles, Kingfisher, deer on this particular short visit.

Lovely for outdoor and walking enthusiasts.
Lovely for outdoor and walking enthusiasts. There is hiking (check out Sugar Loaf Bluff) and great walking/biking/kayaking/fishing at Lake Winona. Plenty of places to eat, both local and chains. Great sidewalks and very walkable. Lots of beautiful views along the river too.

The area is absolutely stunning!
The area is absolutely stunning! Bluffs all around with a river cutting through. Sugar Loaf Bluff is a must-see, and if you're into antiques, there is an antique store at the base that is worth checking out. I spent a little time in the charming downtown area, and I wish I could have stayed longer to do more exploring of that area. The coffee shop I went to - Blooming Grounds - was great!
Some of the parking lot entrances were headache-inducing and be prepared for an odd amount of traffic circles, but I would still love to go back.

I was absolutely excited when I arrived in Winona.
I was absolutely excited when I arrived in Winona. One of the first places I would recommend going is the Welcome/Visitor Center. Katie has a wealth of knowledge, and not just for Winona only. I ordered from Miya and the food was so delicious. I didn’t meet one unfriendly person in Winona. The Super 8 was good for the price, and for a one-night stopover. The towels were not so white. I mentioned it to the desk clerk and she told me they are switching to off-white towels. A sign for the office would have been more helpful. I received an upgrade to a king because when I booked it showed a queen available which needed to be cleaned due to an early checkout and after housekeeping was gone for the day. All in all, I would stay there again. Very convenient location and right at the base of Sugar Loaf!

We especially liked the yard and the rooms. The surroundings were quiet and we felt at home. Breakfast was great and we liked the way we ate with other guests together on a long table. It was great to talk to them and have interesting conversations. Everything was clean and nice and check-in was easy. Although we didn't get to meet the owners, the cook gave us recommendations for Winona and helped us out with questions.

The hotel was nicely decorated and clean. It felt both inviting and efficient. Staff were very pleasant also. Breakfast was great with a really nice mix of hot and cold items.
