Wilmington is a very nice area near/within Adirondack State Park. White Face Mountain, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, etc., are all very close. Lots of smaller, "woodsy" motel accommodations available, but book well ahead if you want to stay in the better ones (meaning more $$$$) with more amenities.

This was our first trip to the Adirondacks.
This was our first trip to the Adirondacks. We had heard about the Ausable River and decided that's where we wanted to fish. So, it was pure luck that we came across The Hungry Trout. We adored it. It's the older motel type - all ground floor rooms. Super clean.
What we liked most - how friendly everyone was (in town and at resort), clean rooms, fly fishing shop and guides on premises, and private fly fishing directly behind property.
What I wished we had known before hand - food, restaurants are scare. There's a restaurant on premises - tad pricey/fancier. Super good food - Campfire Trout was fabulous. It's closed on Mon and Tues. There's a more laid back place called Rudy's that's maybe 2 miles away? It's closed on Wed and Thursdays. There's also Fratelli's Pasta and it's closed on Tues and Wednesdays?? Also an A&W Restaurant. We arrived late Sunday night thru Friday...so you see we had a hard time figuring out where to go to eat and who would be open. Don't get me wrong, I would go back in a heartbeat, but I would get a room with a kitchenette if possible.
I forgot to mention that there is a small market called The Little Supermarket. Super friendly people, and they have everything you need, plus they sell homemade sandwiches, salads, pasta salads, homemade mac n cheese. Bottom line, I loved The Hungry Trout and wished I lived there.....lol.

We had a wonderful 4 day trip to Wilmington and stayed at The Wilderness Inn which we would highly recommend to others. Visited The Wild Center in Tupper Lake and spent time walking around the town of Lake Placid. Plan to come again to see more of the area!

You could open windows to hear nature sounds n the river.
You could open windows to hear nature sounds n the river. No one, or building behind you so very quiet. Very wooded behind motel. Great terrace overlooks by the restaurant but not outside your room ,so bring your drink n relax. Remember the restaurant n bar closed Sunday n Monday. Surprised us! Peace n quiet . Nice pool area. Wildlife refuge nearby. Adirondack mountain Cafe had the best breakfast n lunches and just the right price with great coffee n big mugs. A general gift n liquor store right up the road. Whiteface nearby and you can see the mountain. Also the north pole amusement park near for the kids. Check times of opening. This was a perfect quiet getaway for us. Almost no need to visit Lake Placid with all the construction going onand high prices of meals. However renting a kayak, paddle board on Mirror lake was awesome. Nice gift shops there too. Enjoy the view n river with trails close by as well

Great location to base for winter activities.
Great location to base for winter activities. Not far from Lake Placid, but away from the hubbub of Placid. Close to Saranac Lake, a small city worth visiting. We had an excellent dinner at the Hotel Saranac’s Campfire Grill restaurant.

Great location, close to all the attractions in Wilmington and Lake Placid, nice shared facilities, BBQs and fire pits. Cabins are spacious and comfortable but a bit dated. Kitchen was well stocked, coffee machine and pods was a nice extra to have.
Great location just outside of a small village called Wilmington. Each cabin is nice and cosy. There's a nice field outside of each to BBQ and for kids to play.
The location in Wilmington is perfect for us. The view is phenomenal - you can see Whiteface from the bedroom. Roger and his staff are very accomodating.
