The house is large in beautiful surroundings not far from Yosemite valley. Has all necessary amenities.
We thought Wawona to be quiet and serene. The cabin we stayed at was easily accessible, but felt private. The corner store was convenient for ice cream to go with our homemade cookies and brownies. We found Glacier Point and Tunnel View easily for spectacular views of Yosemite Valley.

I love the small-town, woodsy feel of Wawona.
I love the small-town, woodsy feel of Wawona. If we didn't have our dog with us, we would have eaten at the Wawona Hotel. It's always nice for dinner. There are nice streets to stroll along, and the river isn't too far to walk to. The Pioneer Center is a nice place to visit. Wawona is so relaxing, without the hustle and bustle of many tourists. We had a picnic near the Pioneer Center next to the river, and it was delightful. I was surprised how crowded the Valley was in October, during the middle of the week. I have never seen it like that before. That's why I usually go in October/November or April/May. It's also nice to have a fire in the fireplace, which isn't possible during the summer months.

Relatively quiet rural community with access to hiking trails. There is a small store in the community, and a larger store a mile away. The Wawona Hotel is the only nearby place to get dinner, so it is best to plan to cook or barbeque your own. The drive to Yosemite Valley is scenic and takes about 50 minutes, depending on the traffic.
It is within Yosemite Park limits and close to the spectacular and popular Mariposa Grove of ancient redwoods.

My husband worked as a Wawona Ranger from the late 70's thru mid-80's. We have always loved the area. Especially love the changes to the Mariposa Grove. A great experience. Two grocery stores - one at Pine Tree Market and another is the Wawona Grocery. Enough to keep you supplied if you've left anything behind. Prices can be more expensive, being in a National Park, but that should be expected. Wawona is just a laid back part of Yosemite National Park. The Valley is beautiful and a day trip to it from Wawona is certainly possible. Glacier Point Road is half-way between Wawona and Yosemite Valley. The only problem right now - isn't the Redwoods fault.....it's that the NPS stopped the reservation system and now it takes around two hours to get into the park and then those going to the Valley could get turned around at El Capitan because parking is full in the Valley. A real cluster. Suggest checking in advance delays....etc.

Located within the National Forest, Wawona is our preferred base for exploring Yosemite. It is a pretty place in itself with plentiful walking trails through the trees, a branch of the Merced river curling through it - offering swimming opportunities - and a variety of options for accommodations. It is also perfect for exploring both the Yosemite Valley and the Giant Sequoias at Mariposa Grove.

50R was infested with mice.
50R was infested with mice. Do not leave any food inside house the mice eat everything. Beds are so uncomfortable. Only 2 baths for 10 people in a 4 bedroom house. No AC rooms too hot. Could not sleep from heat, mice, and very uneven king bed.
The house is quite comfortable. Beds comfortable. Spacious living room. The kitchen has the main utensils you would need and it has two outside balcony where you can have a barbecue. Very nice. Threre is a policy to leave your shoes at the door which is nice. Wifi worked well, netflix, and you also have inflatables to use in the near by river, ping pong table and pool table. The house was inside the Yosemite park which is also good since you still need to drive but you don't need to have a reservation to enter the park.
The area was just amazing - such a cute, warm little community with great sights within walking distance. Reaching top attractions such as Sequoia Park and the Yosemite Valley was a breeze. The house had everything one might need for short and long stays. It's a very cozy home that you won't want to leave. I really hope we will be able to return there one day!
Location is fabulous and cottage is really cute but all cupboards were locked which made it difficult to store/ hang anything -and it is very expensive but I suppose it is general in Yosemite
