Cute little town en route to State Forest State Park, the "Moose Capital of Colorado"! Highly recommend checking out the state park (Gould Loop Trail and Lake Agnes Trail), driving the Poudre Canyon Road through the canyon, following the Cache le Poudre river all the way to Fort Collins. We've been to Colorado a million times but never through northern Colorado in this area. It did NOT disappoint. Even saw a moose mama with twin calves!!!

Great little town and the people are nice. We loved the Holyground coffee shop, Mad Moose Cafe, and River Rock Cafe. Staff and food there were outstanding. Four winds pizza staff left a bit to be desired. The sandwiches were excellent but it sure seemed like we were ruining their day for getting food there. We did come in at about 6:10 and they closed at 6:30 but we did carry out so we weren’t staying beyond their closing time.

There Is a single grocery store which is poorly stocked and the restaurants tend to close before the average person wants dinner. The folks are nice and the town is quiet. It’s a good place to stop if you’re a sportsman. Not so good if you are looking for local flavor. The Mad Moose cafe very rustic and has a small but excellent breakfast menu. Stay away from the Four Winds Pizza as it’s staff isn’t particularly friendly and it’s cleanliness is questionable. The whole town is about 8 blocks so you can walk (safely) anywhere.

I grew up in Walden. I don't make it back near enough.

I grew up in Walden. I don't make it back near enough. Walden is a great inexpensive place to visit. A outdoor wonderland. Winter golfing on a frozen lake. Famous for it's ice fishing, and snowmobiling. The sand dunes are fun for the off-roader enthusiasts. Almost every outdoor activity is free to very little cost. Lots of camping that doesn't require reservations and you won't have neighbors. Very remote. Wildlife everywhere. Miles and Miles of scenic roads. Three great places to eat. Great Motels, lots of Airbnb to stay.
