This is a military town, but has a lot of beautiful murals and the city has recently spent a lot of money creating a gorgeous visitor's center. There is a lot of art and natural desert beauty out here.

It is difficult to find healthy-eating restaurants in the area and both 29 Palms and Joshua Tree weren't very inspiring places to visit with everything being on the main highway. Yucca Valley a bit further down the road looked like it might be a better place to find good hotels and restaurants.
Given that, the purpose of our visit was just to have a bed for the night before spending the next day driving through the JT NP - we weren't staying for more than one night.
Highly recommend the Rib Co for a good evening meal that included salad and vegetables.

Our car broke down outside 29 Palms so we were stranded for a week without a vehicle....29 Palms was an oasis in the desert. We found a lovely motel (El Rancho Delores) where we could walk into town for some GREAT local meals...GRND SQRL, Thai and Campbell Hill bakery that only opens Th-Sat 6-8 PM but is well worth waiting in line!
Of course its one of the entrances to Joshua Tree NP so you can enjoy the wild beauty of that for days
The only thing we could not find was groceries (we had no car and nearest grocery was 4-5 miles)

29 has really stepped up, lots of young entrepreneurs with really good local businesses. Love GRND SQRL restaurant and craft beers, love the historic 29 Palms Inn. Also revitalized Tin Town arts, shops, food & drink - a treasure! Used to live/work up there, love going back for the fun activities and old friends.

Joshua Tree park was great and we wished we could have had time to hike some of the trails. We had a dog with us so had to stay near the road, but still beautiful.
We also lucked out that there was a reception for the TwentyNine Palms art gallery, and we got to see some very nice art. If you get a chance, go to the Glass Outhouse Art Gallery, just outside of town. A really cool art gallery in the desert. They were so friendly and welcoming.

A great experience of staying in yurts in the middle of the desert, especially for those people who like to camp. The yurt and the area around it are equipped with everything necessary for a multi-day quality stay. The proximity of only 12 minutes drive to the Joshua tree national park gives this accommodation an added value. For every recommendation!
Beautiful location & close to Joshua tree park with a car. Great for stargazing and toasting marshmallows! Perfect little stay with everything you need. Host is fantastic at responding and offers a great manual/directions for the home.
The place is a bit further away from the main street where there are shops and restaurants. The accommodation was simple but absolutely sufficient. The bed was nice and comfortable. Lots of space to park. Very close to Joshua Tree NP.
Friendly welcome. Well situated for visiting Joshua Tree. Very fair pricing. Well worth considering if you require a very adequate stop at a good price near the national park.
