The shelling was good on Sanibel, but better on a public beach near the tip of Captiva. I got better shells that were actually "whole". See pics below.
We ate at Doc Ford's Restaurant & the food was excellent.
Another night, we ate at Cajun Mudbugs. The food was so-so, seafood was overcooked & dry. Frankly, I'm a better Cajun cook. They had live entertainment. We were expecting Acadian/ Cajun music, but instead they had a single musician, who played popular & oldie music. He was a good guitarist, but his singing was off key & extremely loud. You couldn't hear yourself think, let alone have a nice conversation at the table. It was an expensive ruined evening.

Sea shells not as ample as implied on internet.
Beautiful beach. Easy to access.

An island in recovery from hurricane Ian but so welcoming and beauty every where u look weather in the flowers, water, shelling, sea life, bird watching, biking or visiting the shops!! We will definitely be going back every chance we get!! 🩵we actually got groceries and ate at the cottage, more traffic than u can imagine around 3-5 at main intersection but they have that covered with a traffic patrol !

Sanibel is still a great place to vacation.
Sanibel is still a great place to vacation. Although it is heartbreaking to see all the damage from the hurricane, it's still a great option. We've been going to Sanibel for about 8 years and it's our happy place. We can't wait for the island to renew itself.

This resort was one of the few now opened 15 months after Hurricane Ian. There was nothing at all wrong with the facility; it was just not the cottage like facility we had patronized for the previous 27 years. Our “resort” was the Castaways. Hurricane Ian removed that completely from existence. Sanibel island Beach Resort is a hotel with direct access to the beach.
From our room on to the beach in less than 5 minutes walking. Gorgeous beach with sooo many seashells to collect. Children loved the main pool and the ice cream shop within the hotel. Amazing assistance at the hotel. We had a wifi connection problem and the engineer came to our room at 10 pm to help us fix it.
we loved our stay- we had had another night elsewhere on Sanibel which was more than double the price with appealing customer service. We were checked in early and were given a personal tour - it felt that nothing was too much trouble! we loved the wildlife area too
The location of the hotel is great very very close to the beach
the room was big with kitchen refrigerator micro and coffee machine
breakfast was great rich
The internet was good
