Toured the Fort Marion (Castillo de San Marcos).

Toured the Fort Marion (Castillo de San Marcos). Lots of history lessons there. Park ranger and volunteer staff super friendly. Night of Lights was crazy crowded in the streets, restaurants and shops. A bit overwhelming for some small merchants. Way advance reservations recommended! Found last minute convenient local accommodations in an apartment room w/in easy walking distance for us. Wear good, cushioned walking shoes for these old city streets! We walked about 2.5 miles in arrival half day and 7.3 miles in a 12hour second day. Also, restaurant reservations in advance are highly recommended!! Found a last-minute table at La Nouvelle and Sainte George for the two nights we were there, plus a lunch at Prohibition Kitchen, all with excellent food. We were LUCKY!

    We loved St.

We loved St. Augustine, it is very interesting historical town with lots of things to see and to do, especially for the families with kids. We loved the idea of little trolley historical tours of the city. All stops are very interesting. We also took Flagler college tour, visited Lightner Museum, Fountain of Youth park, beach. Old city is very lovely, lots of restaurants and shops. The city is especially gorgeous during the holidays! We enjoyed our 3.5 days stay and will recommend it to our family and friends!

You need more than two days there.

You need more than two days there. It is a lot of walking and if you are not accustom to it, you can feel overwhelmed. There are so many great attractions, so you need ample time to properly enjoy them.

For us, the best things about St Augustine were the architecture and the museums. If you go, book a tour of Flagler College in advance. It is a world class edifice full of surprises, including perhaps the largest collection of Tiffany windows anywhere. Also take in the Lightner Museum and the Villa Zorayda Museum. These 3 places make St Augustine worth a visit. Try to avoid visiting near any major holiday like Christmas; the already high prices of the hotels are even higher. Eat at the Columbia! The Distillery was also remarkably fun.

    The Christmas lights were spectactular.

The Christmas lights were spectactular. We prebooked the pirate ship cruise which was a total waste of money, there was no "show" and they were to play Christmas music and we only heard that at the end of the ride, they played everyday music for the majority of the cruise. Also the bar was not stocked appropriately, and they ran out of cups! They had a woman dressed up as Santa and she had on pants, a white dress over that and then the Santa suit. Her fake beard was filthy and this was entirely inappropriate.

The area is full of history and charm. Find discount tickets ahead of time to offset the cost of the visit attractions. It is a tourist area and the prices reflect that it is. Lots of shops and great food. We went to Harry's and had an awesome culinary experience.
