Many places to visit so don't just hang around the boardwalk. Lots going on and plenty things to do. I can't say much about the night life as I didn't go out, but wished I did. Spread your wings and explore. Lots to see. Portland overall was enjoyable and being able to see the ocean and everything really made my day. Lobster everywhere, but lobster rolls are different from every restaurant. I love the Cousins Connecticut roll the most. There's no way you couldn't enjoy Portland. One scratched off the bucket list and will visit again during the summer months.

I can't really say much, because we just flew in and out from Portland, Maine. We stayed 1 night, but we were so tired from driving down from Presque Isle via Bangor and Bar Harbor, that we went right to sleep when we got to the hotel!! There was a lot of places we would have liked to visited, but maybe next time 🤔

while i did or saw almost everything i wanted to, the weather was a hindrance as i decided not to do a sunset cruise (considering there would be no sunsetting to see) - still, i did the trolley car tour and daytime casco bay cruise, toured victoria mansion and visited the portland museum of art (which, if the art they did display was any indication of their holdings, the city of portland needs a bigger art museum, so as to show more art!) - and the weather also dampened my enthusiasm (literally) for heading over to the eastern promenade - still, i would return to protland and, perhaps next time, in the off- or shoulder seasons

My husband and I got married here despite never stepping foot in Maine before. We just had a good feeling about the city and we couldn't have been more spot on. There's a lot to do and explore and it is a very walkable and accessible city. Wonderful food and beverage scene and a great deal of history to be explored. We loved our trip!
Would recommend checking out Nosh and Duck Fat for some delightful food, and Arcadia for a fun night life experience alongside some high quality pizzas!
We rented e-bikes one day we were there and found it a super fun and easy way to get around. Other than biking, the city is super walkable, so if you don't really want to drive around, you don't necessarily have to. Which is good because parking is terribly difficult to find, and quite expensive when you end up scoring a spot. Truly the only downside I can think of.

This ia wildly unfair to the city, but bc we were rear ended the first day (while stopped at a red light), I am not a fan of the city or the state at all.
Instead of being able to appreciate anything about the architecture, culture, food, or geography - all of which were probably lovely - Portland Maine will always be the place where my beloved car got totaled while I simply waited for a light to turn green.
The week we spent there was miserable (again, not really Portland's fault probably), and I have no fesire to go back. I'll just give this one piece of advice to anyone visiting: avoid Forest Ave.

Overpriced for shockingly small room.
Overpriced for shockingly small room. Low end painful mattress. Toilet hard to flush. No shower stall. Dangerous climb into a high bathtub. Stained/moldy walls in bathtub enclosure. Did not have option of parking yourself in safe garage. Only given option of valet parking for up charge of $45/night and additional tipping attendants. Convoluted steering of guests into dining room to recoup gratuities fee. Breakfast not included.
Lovely Inn with caring staff and comfortable rooms. Beds had good bedding and pillows, rooms were clean and plenty of water, tea, coffee and brownies in the communal area. Downtown 25-30 minute walk.
