I came to Las Vegas briefly in 1989 and was so enchanted by it that I had to return but it took 35 years! A hidden New Mexico gem. It has a wonderful history and over 900 historic buildings. It is a strange sort of place with massive houses on 6, 7, 8th street (and others) and trailer parks on 1st and 2nd! Lovely green spaces on Lincoln Av and around Carnegie. A bit rough round the edges but all posh people could want too - golf course etc. Felt safe the whole time. The new Cowboy restaurant is an experience and the food at the Japanese restaurant "Oisho" 508 Douglas was superb. A welcome change. Fantastic antique shops in the Plaza and by the station. It takes you back in time to the 30s, cowboys etc. Scott in the Tourist Information in the railway station building was very helpful. Somebody should venture out and advertise personal tours! The Town Hall needs to give grants to those wishing to restore the historic buildings.

The architecture and the restoration of so many beautiful buildings. The history of this town is amazing. It's equally amazing that so many buildings have escaped the wrecking ball and are being restored. I've been to Santa Fe and Taos. Las Vegas is definitely more of what I enjoy in terms of history, food, architecture and incredibly friendly people.

The plaza and the shops around it were interesting. We did not have time to really do more than that. We would have liked the Hot Springs and the Wildlife Refuge. We liked Charlie's Bakery and Olivia's for breakfast.

Las Vegas New Mexico is an unknown gem.
Las Vegas New Mexico is an unknown gem. Approximately an hour away from Santa Fe (which is way more touristic and buzzing) this small town has an interesting history that you can still feel when visiting.
I loved to stay in the hotel with it's nice hotel shop, but also the antique shops are a real treat if you like to wander through history.

There was nothing positive that stood out.
There was nothing positive that stood out. We were there 1 day, thankfully. The hotel has no elevator, breakfast was unappetizing so we went to mcdonalds instead, and the bed was so uncomfortable that I didn’t sleep well at all and my husband slept sitting in the chair instead. We will choose a different hotel if we decide to visit that area again.

Restaurants closed early on Sundays, ended up eating fast food which is not my preference. The KFC ran out of chicken at 7 pm. Only stayed the night, so I don't have much to say I don't plan to stay there again.
