We came to visit family and this was the perfect place to spend the night but go to their house for gatherings. The ocean breeze and surf crashing was very calming.
The walks along the cliffs were great.

At first I found it a bit of a strange setup, unit at the back of a house. 2 sliding doors, no key provided. However the place was safe, being at the back, and there was always someone there. No aircon but a fan, sleeping with the doors left a bit open kept it cool enough tho.
Fridge, microwave, cooktop and TV all working fine :)
Overall it turned out to be OK.

Beautiful location in the lush rainforest. The sounds of the frogs and things at night were glorious, like your own natural sound machine. Nicely equipped place and fresh (beautifully scented) flowers placed in the bedroom and sitting area before we arrived was a lovely touch. Lovely host too! It is a rainforest so we did get got by some mozzies, but bug spray works wonders.
Really nicely located for exploring volcanoes national Park, but also ventured off down to southernmost Point.

The house was very cozy and well equipped in things we needed. The access is via the code to the door, so we did not have to worry about any key.
It was enough space for three of us (2 adults and 1 kids).
The bed is big and comfortable. The internet is fast.
There is a washing machine and a dryer, which was really helpful after spending couple days on the beach.
During the night, you may hear croaking frogs - we loved it!
Free parking space was great!
The location is around 20min drive from Hilo, but we liked coming back to this lovely place, after spending whole day on different activities.
The communication with the owner was great!
We would love to be back one day!

This location, and anything in Hawaiian Paradise Park is perfect for really getting away, however, it is NOT close to any stores, restaurants, etc. You need to be prepared with your own food. I have a friend who lives nearby, so it is perfect for me. I do recommend looking for fruit stands along the Pahoa highway, and Kaloli's restaurant in Orchidland. Pahoa is quaint and has more restaurants and grocery stores. It's worth a visit; not terribly touristy.

Lovely room with private bathroom.
Lovely room with private bathroom. We had access to all we would need to picnic or go out for the day including chairs, esky, beach gear. We enjoyed using the outdoor eating area. The neighbourhood is lovely and quiet and the ocean breeze is divine.

Everything was great.
Everything was great. Lots of towels, things to cook with on a one pot burner, toaster/over/microwave/outdoor grill, full size refrigerator, and plenty of utensils. A nice large patio to sit on in the back, which is where the grill is. Also a large DVD collection and a washer and dryer access to use. It basically had everything you would want, except a full size stove, but it is not needed. Really could not be nicer place. Just know that it is 20 minutes out of town, but makes it quite quiet.

It was a quiet residential district convenient for both Hilo and the Volcano National Park. We enjoyed exploring along the Ocean's edge. You definitely need GPS or a mapping app on your phone to make the most of your visit.
Blue Hawaiian Rentals is a wonderful little slice of Paradise. Beautiful and well-maintained lush green property, and the room was clean and spacious. The locked front garden gate makes for a safe and private stay. Mini fridge with water, coffee maker with coffee pods, a microwave, and an enormous ceiling fan in the room all made for a very comfortable stay. I loved the nighttime “jungle noises” as I’ve been affectionately referring to them. Thank you again, Cindi! Top notch.
The spirit of Aloha is alive at Ala Kai B&B. This property is hosted by warm and helpful owners; their ocean-view breakfasts from the upper deck were just right for our needs; and the location was ideal for visiting ohana in Keaau. We look forward to a return to this special, Big Island home!
