Ely is a great midway stop when crossing Nevada north to south. The surrounding country is incredibly spacious, miles and miles of dramatic landscape. Great Basin National Park is a great addition to the National Parks System.

Ely is the largest city in that portion of Nevada. The countryside is high desert into alpine. There is much beauty in the wide open spaces....much to do outdoors. The town has well stocked stores and several restaurants.

Our estimate of Nevada went up thanks to our time in the Ely area. It is very scenic. Of course, June is the wrong time to spend much time outside. It was incredibly hot. (But not nearly as hot as Las Vegas, which was 113 degrees Fahrenheit when we were there on the way to Ely.) Of course, gambling is everywhere in Nevada, but it is not as obtrusive in Ely. The "loneliest road in North America" begins there. It was in good condition and well worth the trip for the incredible views of mountains and wildlife.

I would but Ely needs a better choice of restaurants. I asked about a place to eat mentioned Denny’s and was told it wasn’t the best place to eat. Went to McDonald’s instead and it was like we were bothering them. Food wasn’t very freash made.

Our room and building was ok. The jacuzzi wasn’t working. The front office staff said they were “waiting on a part,” put it was said in a very unsure and unbelievable way. Our friends, however (both in their 70’s), were given a room in a separate building on the second floor WITHOUT AN ELEVATOR!!! Not cool, La Quinta. Not cool. Plus, the sink was clogged, and it took an hour to get a plumber to show up!

Front desk was very accommodating. Room was clean. Everything worked. Apparently the hotel is upgrading some rooms. This room didn't have a microwave but we asked the front desk and she brought us one immediately.
the check in was flawless, Lori, who worked the desk was very congenial and helpful, the casino was very clean and bright, the room was very clean, comfortable and very roomy, the restaurant was top-notch, food was excellent and staff excellent..would definitely stay again.
Very nice facility Quiet we enjoyed the Prospector Hotel Restaurant and facilities indian gift shop was well stocked
