Home to Harvard University and MIT, Cambridge is an education nerd's nirvana, Beautiful to walk along the river between the two schools (about two miles) and each campus is open and welcoming. Fall colors in great display. Boston Logan Airport lets you catch the Silver Line (a dedicated bus) right from the airport terminal which takes you to South Station, and puts you on the Red Line subway. All at no charge. Far better than taking a car/cab/uber (as you must do in NYC). MIT, Mass General, Harvard are all stops on the Red Line Subway in Cambridge (a close in suburb of Boston). Very walkable with wide walking paths along the Charles River.

Where we stayed seemed to be a rundown neighborhood.
Where we stayed seemed to be a rundown neighborhood. Not dangerous but there was no reason to leave the hotel. Food in the area, other than exceptional farm across the street was run down old diners & coffee shops with bad food.
Nobody should come here to see the town.

Cambridge is a great town to stay in, for a variety of reasons. It's great if you're wanting a place that feels and is safe for you and your family. It's also not that far away from everything you'll want to see at Harvard, in Boston, and at other nearby locals such as Salem and Plymouth. We had two gluten-intolerant individuals in our party, and we were able to find great restaurants that fulfilled their needs.
The only negative was that while we were there the Red Line station nearby was down, but the metro of Boston provided charter busses that transported travelers to other portions of the Red Line that were open and allowed us to access the greater Boston metro at large. This closure would only last two weeks, so chances are that you won't have this issue!
If you end up going to Cambridge, I would recommend getting a Charlie Card from a nearby subway station to be able to use both busses and subway. In later 2024 I understand that Boston is planning on having online options for the Charlie Card, so do a bit of research before going.

Cambridge is a great place for sightseeing and history.
Cambridge is a great place for sightseeing and history. My son graduated from Harvard University and the city has rich spots for viewing in conjunction with the university. The Coop has all of the Harvard gear and gifts to take back to family, as well as the Harvard Store. We ate at Tatte, a nice breakfast and coffee restaurant. Uber is easy as well as short walks around the squares. Cambridge is a beautiful city and I can't wait to visit again.

Stayed in Cambridge to attend a graduation at Boston University. We were just close enough for it to be a very short drive, but did not have to immediately deal with school traffic. There were many stores and restaurants nearby, with good access to major roads to simplify travel.

It is only 7 min easy walking distance to Davis Square, so it has an ideal location if you have a student at Tufts University where you can use the shuttle at no cost. You can also take the Red Line to Boston City Center.
The hotel does not offer breakfast (only tea and coffee) but across the street is Pemberton Market where you can find lots of different things to eat and drink.
The area is quiet and safe.
Stayed one night. Clean, comfortable room. Close to a Red Line station and bus stops if you want to travel further into Cambridge or Central Boston.
There is a $25 destination fee per night (i assume this is similar to city tax when staying in Europe), though that amount can be used as credit in the restaurant on food and drinks.
Everything! The room was nice and clean, well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. The location is also good, it’s close to the metro stop and near by there are many restaurants and supermarkets. Iris is a great host, I will totally come back here if I pass by Boston/Cambridge again.
Very clean, sleek interior. Reasonably sized rooms. Nice location and easy to get into central Boston and Cambridge on the T. The restaurant was a delight - welcoming staff, delicious food and very reasonably priced!
