We visited Great Basin National Park and Lehman Cave.
We visited Great Basin National Park and Lehman Cave. Highly recommend both. Highly recommend the cafe at Lehman Cave... excellent food and service.
I could not and would not recommend the Sugar, Salt & Malt Restaurant. Terrible food and service.

If you like hiking and backpacking it is a paradise.
If you like hiking and backpacking it is a paradise. Wheeler Peak and Lexington Arch are the gems. The cave tour is awesome. The park gift shop is well stocked. The park cafe has awesome food, shakes, and drinks. The rangers are knowledgeable and friendly. The Baker General Store is hometown friendly; coffee shop, some groceries, knick-knacks, and nice sitting areas for games. Baker needs more eating establishments. The stars at night are amazing.

Baker is a sad excuse for a town.
Baker is a sad excuse for a town. There is a very poorly stocked general store. an automated gas pump (not a gas station) and a couple of broken-down RV campgrounds. Plan on being entirely self-sufficient.
Having said the above, Great Basin National Park is a GEM and a must-do.
There is a single restaurant. The nearest supermarket is in ELY Nevada some 70 miles away.
Camp in the National park or stay at the Hidden Canyon Retreat. Other options are poor.

Great Basin National Park is well worth a 1.5-3 day visit.
Great Basin National Park is well worth a 1.5-3 day visit. The Lehman Caves tour was fascinating with excellent ranger guides covering geology, history, and lore about the caves, and Wheeler scenic drive was impressive with hikes for all interests along the way and at top.
Wheeler Peak and the other hikes from the road end were loaded with varied microclimes, plants, birds, insects, butterflies, flowers, rocks, scenery, and views. Amazing to experience so much diversity in a day!

It really just served a purpose.
It really just served a purpose. Driving across country, we needed to eat, relax, sleep, and take a shower. It was just that, perfect for us. Baker is a nice friendly little town. It’s a purpose town…gas, diner, bed, shower, quietness. Driving across country it’s perfect for that in and out.

Great Basin National Park is worth a visit if you're passing...
Great Basin National Park is worth a visit if you're passing through and Baker is very close to Great Basin. We were traveling home from Utah and our route took us through Baker so we hiked a couple of trails at Great Basin, it was a refreshing change from the red rocks of Utah.
