We took the Anchorage trolley (deluxe 2 hour tour) narrated by a local tribesman (Ace). Learned many things in a short period we would have not discovered on our own. Had reindeer sausage sandwich from a street vendor which was excellent. There is no shortage of shops to find Alaska souvenirs.

Anchorage AK was a wonderful starting destination for our trip to Alaska. This small city was a great place to fly in and out of and provided all the information we needed to explore Alaska. The airport was easy to access and it was convenient to rent a car. There were many dining options in the city as well as hotels. The scenic views were abundant as well.

Most horrible experience we ever had. We asked for towels.
Most horrible experience we ever had. We asked for towels. Receptionist got rude and nasty to us. We were verbally abused, insulted and told to leave the hotel before they call the police on us. Said we think we’re entitled and acting like 5 year olds throwing Kleenex and toilet paper. No idea why she would say that but by the time we left the front desk and got to our room, toilet paper and Kleenex were on the floor in front of our door. They had time for that but not to bring towels to the room. We had 2 wash cloths and a hand towel. Obviously the room was not cleaned and ready for guests. Will NEVER stay at a Hyatt property again.

The whole place is run down and shabby.
The whole place is run down and shabby. The draperies had holes, the phone was dirty, and the TV controls were sticky. I was afraid of bedbugs but the linens were clean. There were homeless right outside our window playing rap music on loudspeakers. Very sketchy people staying at the hotel. The shuttle drivers were nice, but the desk guy wasn't friendly. It was a very depressing place. Definitely not worth the money. Ramada should be ashamed.

We just had one day to sightsee.
We just had one day to sightsee. We did the city trolley tour in the morning, hosted by a local with excellent knowledge of the city and Alaska generally; it is worth going on the longer trolley tour so you can get off the bus for photos etc.
In the afternoon an out of town tour by “escape anchorage.com” was also excellent and made a good contrast to the city tour, and was good value at $129.
If we had had longer we would have hired bikes to cycle the coastal trail, visited the museum and done a longer trip to one of the national parks.
Restaurants were good - we went to Ginger and 49th State Brewing (both bar / restaurants) and would recommend both. There is plenty to do - but do check the weather, and also Alaska’s 35 different species of mosquitoes (we didn’t see any in mid May)!

We did not have an opportunity to view much of Anchorage as we were headed to Wasilla to visit family. We did eat at the Arctic Roadrunner in Anchorage, which is a very popular burger restaurant; the burgers were great! We stayed at the Hyatt in Anchorage, which is only 8 minutes from the airport. We'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be close to the airport and have a great hotel/restaurant to visit. Directions to the airport were fairly straight forward; there was very little traffic mid-morning Sunday.
All accommodation in Anchorage is overpriced if you ask me, but this hotel is very good and nice if we are comparing it with other hotels and prices. Staff on reception was not too friendly or helpful, but other than that, everything was great. Very clean. Free parking. Free shuttle to airport. Room was huge, quiet, clean, with little kitchen, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, little stove. Bathroom clean and nice. It had everything that you might need and more, for short or long stays. Like little appartment. I would recommend it.
The hotel bears no reflection of the photographs on 'Booking.com's' website. The building is semi-derelict, in an obviously dangerous area. Homeless people and druggies are much in evidence. I'm sure the owner and staff are doing their best but we took one look at 'our' room, supposedly the best available, and left immediately. It was tiny and the door had recently been jemmied open. In my view, whatever the price, the place should be avoided.
About 4 blocks from edge of downtown shopping. Wide open so felt safe walking in light. Popcorn in lobby. Nice bed and shower. Looks older, nervous when walked up to it but turned out ok. No bad smell at all, like some old places. Newer fixtures in room but could use paint. If you are “particular” will findproblems, but for me good cheaper 1 night stay.
Perfect location in Anchorage on the outskirts of downtown which I preferred. Super close to everything - took less than 10 minutes to get anywhere in the city. Nice quiet neighborhood and the house was adorable. Very clean and neighbors were kind enough to bring my partner and I a little picnic bag full of goodies on our way out.
The owner was very welcoming and checkin was a breeze. The studio was warm and suffient for two nights. We loved the easy access to the Anchorage Railway, only a 5 min walk downhill and a 5 min walk into Downtown for many resturants to choose from
