Busy, Bustling city - do a walking tour as worth seeing some of the places you may not wonder upon on your own, We booked with a local tour company and they did a tour for $30 Wazawa Africa Tours and Travel +255 757 766 459 Muhammed. We did a few transfers with them as well, and he took us to a few bars on the first night and waited for us. We used other taxi services as we travelled round the island but these guys were informative, trustworthy and showed up when they said. and showed up even when I double booked by accident, then came to the hotel to find me! I did find that a few Zanzibar employees were disappointed with the tips we were given even though tipping 5,000 to 10,000 shillings which is a good tip. So be mindful and don't be bullied into giving more, we gave the guide $10 dollars but looked after us for 3hrs, sat while we had a drink and was very pleasant, whereas some others only delivered a drink or carried a bag a few feet and really wanted more than a dollar tip or 5000 shillings. use shillings in the city rather than dollars a use there own conversion system so on first night a £9 bill cost $17 dollars, lessonlearnt quickly, got the guide to take us to a ATM. Atm's charge 6% on every transaction and can only get 400,000 shillings out at a time approx £100 and have to pay £6, use a card like starling as not all restaurants bars charge 3-5% on top plus still cheaper than the ATM. Worth a visit but nights 1 full day as enough good first stop as near to airport if have a late flight in. We eat mostly in the hotel as was good quality and service was good. Take a visit to antonio gardens, as also have entertainment. Visit the old slave market, can see this on your own as easy to find $10 entry fee. also go see Freddie Mercury Museum $7 dollars each to go in think its a bit expensive but quite interesting

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Zanzibar city.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Zanzibar city. The Antonio Garden Hotel was well centrally situated which enabled us to easily access most of the available sites and the beach. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There were plenty of good restaurants around and food was of good quality and reasonably priced. Getting lost in the narrow streets was part of the enjoyment of the city. A negative was that there were too many vendors for tours in the streets. we found it better to book and pay for tours on-line and their service in this regard was excellent. Wiil definitely return to Zanzibar but spend some time at a beach resort in addition to visiting the City

I loved wandering the streets of Stone Town.
I loved wandering the streets of Stone Town. The street food was good and cheap and it has a large variety of restaurants from budget to very expensive. You can do day trips to most other parts of the island from here. I especially enjoyed the spice tour.

I met a lot of kind, smart and well dressed people in Zanzibar and had a great time interacting with them and practicing my Swahili.
Also, I found the BEST SOUVENIR SHOP IN THE WORLD - The Zanzibar Curio Shop!
They're not giving it away for free but you won't be disappointed. You will never again find a such a large and disparate collection of unique items from around the world in one location.

I had a great time in Zanzibar City, namely Stone Town.
I had a great time in Zanzibar City, namely Stone Town. It is full of character, steeped in history and a great location for excursions to Prison Island, Nakupenda Sandbank, and the Safari Blue tour. It's easy to get around Stone Town on foot - lots of winding streets so you can easily get lost, but it's fun. Fhordani Night market was a great experience and easy to find. The gardens are beautiful in the day time too. 3 nights in Stone Town was just right for me, before heading North to enjoy some beautiful beaches.

If you visit the island of Zanzibar, do not skip Stone Town...
If you visit the island of Zanzibar, do not skip Stone Town (Zanzibar city). It is worth a 2 day stop. There are plenty of historic sights to visit; old slave market, anglican church, the spice/fish bazaar, the old fort and Freddy Mercury house. It has also a maze of little streets with plenty of shops for souvenir shopping: paintings, wood carvings, jewelry; both of the african type as well as the more expensive Tanzanite. It has plenty of good restaurants. But most of all the location. Stone Town is right in the middle of the island, so you can do a day trip to Rock Restaurant to the east ( one hour drive) or a visit to Cheetah rock and spice farm to the north( one hour drive) . It is the starting point for half a day tour to prison island with the giant turtles.
This place is close to everything in Stone Town, I would recommend this place to everyone traveling to Stone Town. The hotel is at the beach as well. The rooms are nice, clean and spacious. Also the people working there are really nice, they helped us so much when a taxi driver tried to scam us and talked to the police for us. (Special thanks to Said). We felt really safe at Tembo. Me and my friend stayed in the apartments, a 2 minutes walked from the hotel, but you can still use the hotel facilities.
Nice hotel right on the beach and next to the port.
Great location with everything in easy walking distance from the hotel.
Our room was spacious and clean with a huge ornate bathroom.
Beds were big and comfortable. TV, Fridge and a Kettle in the room with some tea and coffee provided.
Breakfast was ok.
The pool was nice with plenty of shaded areas and a great way to cool off after walking around the back streets of Stone Town.
It was a very good experience, the hotel was ideally located and next to everything (attractions, restaurants, ferry…), you could do almost everything by walk, the breakfast was good and you can have local food (it is rare since every hotel is trying to adapt to tourists who wants to stay in their confort zone on food), also the view you have on the beach is amazing ! The room was clean and huuuge ! The bathroom was on point !
The personnel was very helpful and available.
They helped us with everything, suggesting to us restaurants, places to visit in Stone Town and storing our luggage after checkout so we could walk around the city luggage-free until the time we had to travel to Nungwi.
To sum up, everything was very very very nice at Rumaisa hotel
