Dar es Salaam has 100% resemblance with my country's Mombasa City, the weather, ambiance hospitality the beaches. It just felt like home. It's easy and economical to move around Dar with Bajaj/Rickshaw plus would recommend Aslay Mihogo Joint at the beach if you want to enjoy fish and cassava as a meal they serve a generous portion.

It's a busy big city with a lot of road constructions but I think it's worth visiting at least once for a few days to experience a real African big city with its pros and cons: nice colonial and modern new buildings and spacious green parks mixed with dusty outdated buildings crying for renovation and busy streets jammed wih cars, bikes and pedestrians.
All in all it's a lively and colourful city with sharp contrasts just like in Mumbai or Bangkok.
If you have time, you should visit one of the beaches north of the city like Kunduchi beach or Mbezi beach (15-20 km from the city center) and/or the nearby small islands Bongoyo or Mbudya for a real tropical (white-sand) beach experience.

Dar es Salaam has changed a lot in the past 5-10 years.
Dar es Salaam has changed a lot in the past 5-10 years. Road infrastructure projects have made the city much more manageable as opposed to spending hours and hours in traffic. Lots of good new restaurants. But of course, the southern beaches (south of the ferry) are the best.....clean, quiet, safe.

Dar es Salaam offers a mix from nice beaches, night life, city tours and its central to other stunning areas like Zanzibar but also nearby smaller islands like Mbudya and Bongoyo. The neighbourhood especially around Masaki feels quite safe day and night. The infrastructure is much improved with electric train, the Bus Rapid Transit, Uber and Bolt also make transport quite easy and cheap in Dar.
Only challenge not a problem is most people speak Swahili and english is less used. Google translate typically comes handy a bit here.

There's traffic jam all over the town du to work or bad state of the road.
If you need move in town during peak hours, choose a motor bike, prices are always negociable and bargaining is part of the culture.
I love the town at night. It is safe and well organized for a big city. People are exceptionally friendly, but to really get by you absolutely need to speak Swahili.

Great stay, got an upgrade to a suite but even normal rooms were big, clean and what you need.
Great, welcoming staff, good breakfast.
Great location walking distance to restaurants and bars in Oyster Bay area. Not too far from city centre. Good for city centre break or business stay.
clean, easy to navigate around and location wasn’t too bad - within driving distance from city centre also beach front which was a bonus. most if not all staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. special thanks to Rita and reemah. food at the restaurant was delicious too. a bonus.
The location is great, as it’s just opposite the boat terminal to Zanzibar, and it’s right in Dar Es Salaam’s city centre. The staff were also really helpful and friendly and the facilities were great.
