Konya was surprisingly much quieter and more peaceful than other cities I've visited in Turkey. Walking around was easy and places to visit was mostly within walking distance. I stayed for just one night and the second day was raining so didn't get to do other must see things. Perhaps two nights would be ideal.

We only stopped one night at Konya to break up the trip from Goreme to Pamukkale so didn’t see any of the sites. It seems to be a large place with not much in the way of “touristy” places for Western tourists but has religious significance for Moslems.

Konya is right in the middle of Turkey with what we found...

Konya is right in the middle of Turkey with what we found were the cheapeast flights, the cheapest bazaars, and easy to get around. It is not a tourist trap, so do your shopping here, not Istanbul, Kappadocia, or the coast. Most things are along the main drag between the central park and the Mevlana Museum (where Rumi's tomb is). There are tons of good places to eat. The ethnography and archaeology museums are a nice walk between each other and are worth a visit, although you will need to rely on google maps. Seeing the whirling Dervish ceremony is definitely a worthwhile introduction and is worth the price tag. If you show up early, buy tickets at the event for 20 euros per person - seating is unassigned. One of the only two places I will buy carpets or rugs in Turkey is in Konya at Nomad Carpet (between the town hall and Istanbul Cad. (street)). They guy's English is very good and he is outgoing and will likely approach you on the street.

Konya is not really on the tourist trail.

Konya is not really on the tourist trail. It is a long coach ride or an infrequent flight. Nobody spoke English but Google Translate helped a bit. The town is quite conservative with most things shut by 10pm. Tram from the out of town bus station was frequent and cheap at 13 lira August 2024. 30 minutes to centre. You need a tram card costing 20 lira from the tram stop plus a top up for fares. The machine has instructions in Turkish only and it was not possible to guess which buttons to press. Credit cards and cash. First time use was very difficult and frustrating. Airport yellow taxi 670 lira 30 minutes to centre. Kule tram stop for a large shopping mall. Another shopping area is at south side of Alaadin Park. The main sites are the Mevalna Museum in the centre beside a new outdoor pedestrian precinct of shops. A tram stop further are the IRFA Centre and the Mevlana Cultural Centre. Both have the Sema dance - whirling dervishes. IRFA is nightly times vary around 21.00 lasting an hour costing 20 euros each. A small venue with 7 dervishes so you can be close to them. I found no information on their website. The same service also takes place opposite at the Mevlana Cultural Centre. This is a very large auditorium about 1500 seats. Service begins at 19.00 on Saturdays. 100 lira each. 24 dervishes plus a local choir and orchestra so a greater spectacle.

My family recently spent a day in Konya, Turkey, and it was an experience that will stay with us for a long time. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the city's unique blend of history, culture, and modern charm. Our day in Konya was a perfect blend of exploring magnificent architecture, indulging in the vibrant bazaar, and immersing ourselves in the city’s rich history and culture. Even though we stayed for only a day, the memories and experiences we gathered will remain with us forever. Konya is a city that has something to offer for everyone, and we can’t wait to visit again and explore even more of its treasures.

Sufi Homes is a quaint small hotel a short walk from the main Masjid and an easy walk to all the main highlights in the centre of the city of Konya. Our requests with regards to our room was met. As a Muslim traveler it was wonderful to be able to hear the athaan (call to prayer and be able to take a walk for prayer). The owner has taken pride in the arty finishes which creates a charming ambiance. The rate was good. The staff were helpful.

It was a really colourful and interesting hotel full of eclectic items. The breakfast was the best we have had in Turkey with lots of fresh and interesting ingredients. The staff were really helpful in pointing out places of interest. The location was great for exploring the important places of Konya and in particular the Whirling Dervish show.

The best hotel in Turkey. So amazing the facilities. Love the shop, the staffs, the restaurant, and most importantly, the spacious room! And the garden. The taxi service!
