Pai is the place in Thailand where the travelers (as opposed to the tourists) come to see the real northern Thailand. Granted it is full of travelers but they come from all over the world and that makes it special if you want to embrace the world and all the wonderful people in it. Even though travelers outnumber the local Thai people, the local people embrace the world travelers and welcome us with a smile. There are many outdoor activities and I met a group of Indonesian cyclists who are riding the May Hong Song Loop (600 kilometers/370 miles with climbs like the Alps in the Tour de France)... on bicycles, not motor bikes -- they were amazing!
A small town surrounded by wonderful nature sites and a thriving night market plus really cool live music in small clubs all over town. OK, enough gushing, just get here!
If you loved the vibe of El Nido in the Philippines but aren't a beach person, this is the place! If you want the uni spring break vibe there is a daily party on the river full of mostly naked people drinking, dancing and having a good time. That's not my scene but it's here if you want it.
One last tip: Pai Canyon at sunset!

An interesting town, one that I have visited before.
An interesting town, one that I have visited before. Best known years ago as the heart of the Golden Triangle, these days it’s more of a backpacker haven deep in the hills. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, particularly with a bit of mist. Plenty of choices of bars and restaurants, from cheap and cheerful to a little upmarket — although not too upmarket, that would be a waste of effort in a backpacker town. There’s a night market too, with the usual night market stuff. All in all, Pai is a good place to immerse yourself in some local culture without spending an awful lot of money.

We love Pai, it has a lot of back packers there who seem to love Tubing, we just enjoy the quite time spent there. We always stay at The Quarter which has a great pool, decent breakfast and is very close to walking street. Night time it gets busy with lots of people around walking the street and eating from the many food stalls in the walking street. There is also an abundance of wonderful authentic Northern Thai restaurants that are cheap. Not a fan of the constant smell of 'weed' everywhere you go, but it is a small price to pay for a nice stay. I would not stay more than 2-3 nights. The trip up there is around 3-3.5 hours and we have given away with the buses as I think they are too dangerous with the winding roads and people who overtake on corners. We hired a driver from Chiang Mai and the round trip in a very comfortable electric car was 3,300BHT, well worth it.

For younger backpacker how wants to make party it is right area. When you want to make Expedition this area is not so nice. You can make pai canyon, visit big cave and big buddha bit i think thats it. No grab so most time you need Scooter and most people in europe have no motorbike licence and without that you should not Drive because when you have a accident no insirance and then you have a big Problem. I think i don't come again...
Every evening night market with very very much young people much also alcoholism and smoke drugs..
I don't enjoy Pai

Lovely little village with plenty of dining options.
Lovely little village with plenty of dining options. It’s a little hippyish but really lovely vibe. A few late night bars if you want to party but a lot of restaurants close around 11. Lots of street food available partly to fuel the munchies with lots of canabis shops. Found a great Italian wine bar ( witching well) as well as great Thai restaurants. The walking street can be covered in about 20 minutes and feels very safe and comfortable. Plenty of small hotels to walk into and book a room as well. The journey from chaing mai takes about 3 hours and the last two hours are on steep winding roads so don’t skimp on your transport and go with a private driver for comfort or ask your hotel to arrange. It should be around 3,000 bht each way (€75)

Pai is a small town with lots of restaurants.
Pai is a small town with lots of restaurants. We stayed a day here as part of our 4 days MHS loop and so not able to fully enjoy Pai.
We missed out on Sai Ngam and so visited Tha Pai Hot spring on our way back to Chiangmai. Many level of hotness in a natural environment, stones in the pool make walking a bit difficult. We settled on pool at 33 degree - just 5 of us in the pool so is not crowded. Spent about an hour here. Initially the water felt too hot, but we got used to it after a while. Clean toilet & shower with hot water, facility is adequate. We got bitten quite a bit - itchy after a couple of hours even after we reached home.
The white Buddha up the hill is beautiful, many steps to the top - you are rewarded with beautiful sunset & 360 view of the surrounding. Kind of hot up there while waiting for sunset.
Cody Backpackers was such a lovely stay. Highly recommended to anyone coming to Pai! 10-15min walk from town, perfect location with beautiful peaceful views! I booked for 3 nights and stayed 2 weeks as I was so comfortable:)
Also met some amazing people there as well as the staff who could not have been better! So friendly, always willing to help, and fun:)
My best stay in Thailand so far!
We had an amazing stay and actually extended because we felt so welcome.
The room is well equipped and clean, the BEST breakfast in all Thailand and the family is super friendly. It's also really close to the walking street but still in a quiet area, so got good sleep.
Wifi is incredible.
Bonus point is also that the restaurant on property is a pizza place.
KK Hut was one of our favourite accommodations during our 2 months Thailand trip. The location is great - it’s very close from the city centre but also a little bit on side, so it’s very quiet and you can feel the countryside vibe. The kitties that live at this place are super cuddly and we miss them everyday.
Beautiful accommodation just outside of all the commotion of Pai. The little house is small but has everything it needs. It’s situated in a beautiful garden, which has a very peaceful vibe. The bed is one of the best I’ve had in Thailand (they are usually pretty hard).
The girl who did our check-in was extremely nice and welcoming :)
The location is fantastic - close enough to the walking street but away from the noise. The room was very convenient.
The best massage IN THAILAND next door.
Highly recommended.
