Staying at a fortress is an incredible experience and I am so glad we spent our first night in Sweden at Kastellet Bed and Breakfast! The building is phenomenal. The rooms are charming. The bathrooms are very well organized. And the breakfast is delicious! Thank you for a remarkable introduction to the Stockholm Archipelago!

Vaxholm itself has shops, cafes and cycle hire.
Vaxholm itself has shops, cafes and cycle hire. The nearby islands and the far end of Vaxholm are well worth the visit. There are several separate ferry companies serving the island and a bus so worth researching them on the Internet before hand.

the location is amazing!!! the town of Vaxholm is picture perfect on the archipelago with beautiful shops and restaurants and the best range of ice cream shops I have ever seen. With the Kastellet being on its own island, a short 2-3 minute ferry ride from Vaxholm. and who doesn’t want to stay in a Castle right? The bed was really comfy and the shared facilities were spotless and plentiful. Breakfast was nice with just baked bread, great coffee snd all the usual continental fixings you get in Sweden
The room was tastefully decorated, there was a well equipped kitchenette, the grounds of the villa we're picturesque and Sanna was a welcoming and friendly host. I would highly recommend staying here if you're spending the night on Vaxholm (which is a lovely, quiet escape from Stockholm).
