This hotel is on the Camino but for Camino pilgrims beware it is far from the city. Pilgrims - **GET DINNER** in the city before walking here (see negatives below). The hotel itself is exceptionally clean so it should get a good rating for that. It is on the river walk option for the Camino.
Casa Gwendoline - Albergue / Hostel / AL - Caminho da Costa enjoys a location in Vila Nova de Cerveira, 23 miles from Shipyards of Viana do Castelo and 28 miles from Golfe de Ponte de Lima.

I greatly enjoyed this stay. I found the owner to be very kind and full of interesting life experiences and stories. This albergue felt like a home. My room was comfortable with a stunning view and the view from the bathroom was even more gorgeous. The pilgrim's dinner was delicious and cozy. Laundry machine worked great and I appreciated the complimentary tea while settling in for the night. I would highly recommend this stay to others.

caretakers made the difference, the lady offered to wash our clothes, since we were on our fifth day of the Camino Portugues, 4 of which rained; furthermore the husband drove us to a local restaurant, and then picked us up.

Vila Nova de Cerveira is a small and nice town.
Vila Nova de Cerveira is a small and nice town. The surrounding nature is beautiful and the rive Minho fantastic. Not many river beaches, we could only find one very nice one but extremely small. There are more on the Spanish side, just a 15 car ride away. Caminha, Moledo and other places within reach, less than 30 mins, all worth a visit.

Villa Nova is in a beautiful part of the country, quite hilly, forested, lovely streams.
The town itself is not remarkable for anything in particular, anything 'must see' but nice. Great supermarket. and not far from Valenca/Tui for those who find the journey from Caminha to Tui too long to walk.

Very friendly service, clean space, adequate breakfast.
Very friendly service, clean space, adequate breakfast. Grounds are beautiful, as well as the style of the buildings. The room/unit layout was somewhat awkward spread over two levels, and street noise can be heard as it's not well insulated.

A beautiful, clean historical town.
A beautiful, clean historical town. Easy parking even on a busy market day (biggest market in area). Lots of local places to eat and have a drink. Very friendly and professional service in all the cafes and restaurants that we visited. Lovely little shops selling gifts and souvenirs. Prices are extremely reasonable everywhere that we went. Town is easy to walk around and then lots of places of interest a short drive away. The riverside has lovely walks and a great park for kids. The views from the surrounding mountains are amazing. Easy access to Spain.

We were so impressed with the beauty, the charm of the people, how clean and well organized everything was that we have made our decision to move there from Houston, Texas.
This small but lovely town really took our breath away. It really has it all. We were not expecting the mountains and the scenic river. Obviously, we simply fell in love! Who would not? The river, parks, markets, people, food, are exactly what we were looking for in a place to set down roots and retire.
We traveled from one end of Portugal to the other and frankly, nothing compared to Vila Nova de Cerveira, it is really a lovely hidden jewel. We found so much to do, no one would ever be bord here! The Saturday Market was so fun, the parks clean and inviting.

Super host! Ideal stop.
Rooms are clean, cool and comfortable. With a beautiful garden to relax in after a long walk.
Home made dinner with vegetables from the garden was delicious. There's a snack shop and well stocked fridge of refreshments in the kitchen.
Vila Nova de Cerveira is a must on the Camino.
Thank you Michaela!
Boega is a traditional Portuguese house. The gardens and suroundings are very green. The view to Rio Minho is astonishing! And the hospitality of all employees amazing.
I will always come back!
Area very calm. Beautiful hotel areas with garden and pool. Bed very comfortable. Nice breakfast. Good to have a little kitchen with cooling possibilities.
