The facilities are new and very well equipped (I must confess I was pleasantly surprised with the dishwasher). The owners were delightful and always available to assist with anything necessary. The kids loved the pool. The property is also very well located if you wish to get to know Valença, Monção, and Melgaço.

The villa was very clean with all the amenities you could ask for, it was cool plus it had A/C biggest bonus by far and not advertised if I remeber rightly ALL windows had full insect screens on, so you can actually have the windows open instead of running A/C which pulls cooler air through with the worry of flying things biting/stinging you at night a real bonus indeed, there is even a double garage for your use to put your car in which again was excellent considering the high temps we were getting up there, the owners are on site living but you don't actually see them hardly, apart form early evening feeding the chickens, it is a very nice peaceful place to stay, I believe it is quite hard to find some say, no problem all you need once you have the address is a phone and another device next to each other, phone on the map location with the property and "other" device on G/maps match them, then drop a pin on G/maps outside the front gate, this gives you co-ordinates, brilliant pop them into sat nav and it will take you directly to their front gate, do not drop on the property you will not get the co-ordinates then, I use this method for every drive to villa and it works EVERYTIME no mater how rural you go.
Location wise. in a car 13 mins to Valenca, really nice fortress to visit entrance is free you take your car up to it and park inside it, bit tight getting in but worth it, you have 4 supermarkets there (not in the fort) Pingo, Lidl, Continete & Intermarche. Turn left on the main road as you leave villa and you will go to Moncao another fort type town, easy drive 15 mins you also have a Lidl and a very good Continente there.
Situated in Valença, 38 km from Estación Maritima, Alma Candida 02 features accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a terrace.

Monção is veyr pretty, with some cool thermal spas, and outdoors hot spring pools on the other side of the river. Worth a walk around the walls, that curious Portuguese combination of fabulous ancient luxury and abandoned buildings, side by side with modernist architecture and comfy parks and squares. It's faded but still glamorous and had a certain old work style about it, i enjoyed walking the walls, the flowering spring trees, the river walk, the thermal spa, a municipal service which was relaxing and fun, and good value for the time you get there, time your visit to the spa with Sunset if you can, the huge glass building ti's in, gets flooded with light, sparkling off the bubbling hot waters, the water are treated so not sulphurous smell, but this makes it more clinical an experience. Relaxing nonetheless after a long days walking and exploring this ancient citadel town. Swimming in history and charm, but for some reason the restaurants charme more than anywhere else i've been in Portugal, ,other than Lisbon, not sure what's going on there as the quality of the food isn't any different. Portuguese food is superb wherever you may eat and Monceau is no different to that, lots of local produce to eat, friendly hosts and a low key bar scene. It's a unusual place to spend a few days and a good first stop if you're interested in the hot springs of this area, of which there are many, of different types. Town is walkable, we parked outside the walls and left the car, little flat space , but the hills are easy, the views out across the river and mountain and beautiful.

Sound of birds and fountains. Views of garden and vineyards. Scent of orange trees. Welcoming staff. Sitting in cool of eveni g witha glass of estate wine. House is exceptional better than any hotel. I went to the thermal spa, so enjoyed town within fortress of Moncao. Cycled on ecopista both sides of river. SOLAR de SErrada is out of town but taxis available.
breakfast very generous. I loved the jug of coffee so that I could pour my own preference.
Very close to historical center, restaurants, banks, etc. Excellent price, clean, and comfortable. Parking on street but next to hotel.
The young woman receptionist was very helpful and friendly. (Don't expect great comprehension of English anywhere in Monção that I encountered. Fortunately I am reasonably conversant in Portuguese and people were kind.)
This hotel is stylish converted from a Convent and beautifully designed with a real sense of history. The dinner and breakfast were wonderful and great value for money. The staff were very helpful. We stayed here last year and returned as we enjoyed it so much. We were upgraded to a junior suite was was spacious.
Beautiful hotel. The decorations in the hotel, the fountain, the rooms, the restaurant, all excellent . Very friendly staff. This was our second time in this hotel. We'll be back
