We had a sea view apartment. It had three big windows overlooking the harbour, and over to Pico Island and the huge volcano. Excellent value for money, staff were super helpful and printed out documents we needed for ferry tickets and car hire. Also stored bags for us and came in especially so we could claim them, can't recommend this place highly enough.

It is an island, therefore the weather is a bit unstable: it rains, drizzles, and the sun shines, all in the same day! The good thing about it is if it rains it's not for long. The temperature is mild 22 - 24 degrees Celsius in first half of July, and there's always a breeze which makes it very comfortable, but you'll need something warm for the evenings.
It's very quiet, not a lot of ppl walking around, but there seemed to be a lot of cars going, more than ppl on the pavements.
Eating and drinking: the majority of restaurants and bars seem to be quite upmarket and tourist tailored (with matching prices) and they're on the seafront, by the marina and basically in the town centre. But you can find more affordable places (where the food is actually more delicious and the portions bigger), you just have to look for them as they are situated away from the seafront, in the back streets.
Porto Pim beach is great, you can walk there, it's not far from centre and water is calm and warm.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, there are whale and dolphin watching trips and other activities, such as snorkelling and deep sea diving.
The locals are very friendly.

Don't just stay in Horta, specially if you have a rental car.
Purchase ferry tickets for yourself and for the car and visit two other islands of the archipelago - The Pico Island (ferry stop: Madalena) and the St. Jorge Island (ferry stop: Velas)
In Horta, visit the Caldeira do Cabeço Gordo, a volcano cone. If you're there on a clear sunny day, you can even hike around the volcano cone.
Visit the Capelinhos Volcano Museum - a real treat for geology lovers.
Our favorite beach was 'Praia do Almoxarife'

Horta offers so
Much. It’s a great point to start exploring the island as well as the neighboring island. The harbor is very special to anyone with an interest of boats. The harbor full of yachts on their way across the Atlantic.
The town has several great restaurants and watering holes. The many streets are fun to explore and the neighborhood offers great hiking.
Peter Sport Cafe is a must as well as a stroll in n the marina watching all the paintings made by boaters heading home to Europe

A wonderful hidden island for people who like the silence, the hiking and the mountains. Beware that the supermarkets have few things.
Azores are expensive to live, because of few available homes and the prices raise up.

Loved the old city...however, construction was taking place which made getting around by car a little confusing. Loved walking around the waterfront and seeing the famous marina as well as the artwork created by mariners. Shopping in the local stores was a good experience with prices that you don't feel taken advantage of. Shopping in the city's Mercado was also a nice experience. Trying new restaurants around the city was also a good experience. While there, rent a car...best way to get around as public transportation is not regular or abundant. Also, try to visit the neighboring island of Pico on the ferry and spend a few days there...lots to see.
Great apartment having everything you need for your stay. After hotels it was nice being able to cook for myself when I wanted and have access to a kettle!
Huge bed...king size and super comfortable, except for...(see below).

Very clean
Vista do Canal is an extremely well presented apartment with every amenity that you could want. The elevated location gives outstanding views of Pico from the balcony, and the owners are the most accommodating and lovely people. The property is very close to a supermarket which is useful and the owners very generous welcome pack was fantastic.
Everything was great! Best place we stayed during three weeks in the Azores. Warmly welcomed before check-in time, really spacious and clean room with private bathroom. Excellent location. Wish we had stayed here longer!
The apartment was spacious, comfortable and had all the necessities. The hostess was lovely and helpful. The garden was beautiful with a gorgeous view of Pico. Good location a short walk from central Horta.
