This is a magical hidden gem! This 400 year old family estate is owned and actively managed by Graça with a passion to share her beautiful heritage with her guests. All has been renovated for modern comforts but it keeps its historical character with original doors, staircases and chandeliers.
The breakfast is wonderful and substantial. House made yogurt, fresh eggs from the resident chickens, pear and fig jam and cakes made by the owner the previous night.
The Graça and the manager, Katarina were so happy and welcoming.
Everything here was perfect. Multiple areas to relax in. You have permission to enjoy the library, parlor, a lounge area by the preserved grinding mill.
The grounds have multiple areas to relax and enjoy. There are huge old, old trees. A beautiful swimming pool. Beautiful views of Mount Pico.
It was close to the airport but no noise at night at all. The first plane arrived after 9am.
There is a small store a mile to the west where you can get bread/cheese/wine and other snacks for your adventures about the island.
I can't say enough about this hotel. It was the best place we stayed in 5 Islands of the Azores. They had wine and cake waiting for my husband's birthday and helped with our laundry. it was an excellent and unexpected value in our opinion. The hospitality was over the top. You must stay here!
Make sure you ask Katarina for a tour of the home.
AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING!!!
We will be back 😄
This hotel is 656 feet from the shopping area of Velas and 0.6 mi from the harbor. It features a terrace overlooking the garden, the outdoor pool, and the Atlantic Ocean.

The hotel is located near the shore, so if you have seaside room you'll get an amazing view on the Atlantic and Pico island across the channel, nice to spend an evening on the balcony with a bottle of Azorean wine and cheese from Sao Gorge). Velas town is small, so everything is within a walking range from the hotel. Rooms and their equipment look a bit 'tired', but ok. Breakfast is excellent, there are hot meals: scrambled eggs, beacon etc — when you read in comments "nothing to eat for vegans" it's usually a reliable indicator that the food should be good))), the same is true for this place.
Cabanas da Viscondessa is offering accommodations in Urzelina. There's a terrace and guests can use free WiFi and free private parking.
