The place is authentic and the castle perhaps the best in Portugal, not too big or overwhelming. Then there are the historic walls, a history lovers paradise. And don't forget the food, first rate. This is the "real" untouched Portugal.

Beja is a wonderful city with the modern juxtaposed with the very old. It is nice to walk the old curving narrow streets of the old part of the city. The people make it great as they are open, warm and gracious. Many people speak English.

Beja is located centrally in the Baixo Alentejo region. Aside from historical and tourist attractions in Beja itself, it is located within 1 hour day trips from interesting locations such as Evora, Mértola, Cromeleque neolithic sites, numerous Alentejo wineries, natural parks and more.

I strongly advice going to "Adega 25 Abril" restaurant, very nice staff and good food at suitable prices.
Do not go to "Taberna a Pipa". Awfull service, did not attend us at all, regardless of the small children within our group. They had an available table that was suposed to be for us, but did not prepar it or allow us to seat and order something for the children. We ended going to other restaurant.

A house with lots of heart and attention to detail! All rooms are furnished and decorated according to different personalities.
You are welcomed with the words “the house is yours” and even as we had problems the house owner attended to them immediately!
Perfect service, super cozy rooms and an incredible breakfast!
Next time when we are in Beja we will for sure stay in Maria’s guesthouse again!
Probably the best hotel we have ever stayed at. Unbelievably beautiful rooms, house and garden. Delicious breakfast. We only saw one bedroom (4) and this was the same floor space as a two bed house, effectively a large suite. Vast bedroom with vaulted ceilings, an enormous bathroom and it’s own garden courtyard with floor to ceiling glass windows.
The hotel was in a great location, is quiet, and the staff was friendly. My only suggestion would be to add a night light to the room as it gets dark at night and the steps to the wc get in the way. Also, since the room had 3 single beds, it would be good to add a second chair to the room. Otherwise the hotel was great.
