There was a festival going on the last weekend in August, and we enjoyed all the small vendors set up all around the town center as well as a really good concert! Otherwise, the Monastery was very interesting to visit, and there are a lot of good restaurants and pastry shops as well. We used Alcobaça as a "home base" for visiting other nearby tourist sites, such as Nazaré, Fatima, and Batalha - all worth the trip. We'd also nhighly recommend a quiet little family restaurant - Restaurant Portas de Fora, on a side street close to the monastery.

Alcobaça is a great village to visit, I have been there several times, and there is always something different to do for a weekend trip.
António Padeiro as the best portuguese cuisine restaurant, requires a lot of appetite, ideal for lunch times, along with Prattus that is also very good.
Osaka a japanese restaurant for any meal that is very above average with a lot of choices.
Places to visit there is the Monastery in the center of the village, the medievel walls, the street fairs, Alcoa river garden, just being in a coffe lounge and relaxing is great.
A lot to do if you feel like, if there is time to.
Also, near Nazaré and all the sea uniqueness of that area.

I recommend staying at least a complete week-end just for Alcobaça. It's monastery deserves an inside visit, trying to explore all the compound with the help of their guide. Very good and extended offer of restaurants of every kind (some excepcional), and the convent sweets are imprescindible to try. If you have time, there's a lot more to visit and explore on the surroundings, and why not Nazaré?
Lovely hotel situated with views over the countryside down to Nazare. The public areas, restaurant and bar are relaxing with large windows that make the most of the views and the rooms spacious and very comfortable. We didn’t use the spa facilities so cannot comment but each room had a nice sheltered patio to watch the sunset.
One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in. The building is stunning. It is a former monastery, and the renovation to turn it into a hotel has been done incredibly respectfully. Our room was fantastic. The breakfast was great.
The pool is very nice. We also had a massage in the spa, which I would also recommend.
