The team welcomed us very warmly. We told them that our hiking shoes broke completely beyond repair during the hike to Llahuar and the owner was very committed in helping us - he made it possible that our larger backpack that we stored in Cabanaconde was brought to the lodge so we can retrieve other shoes for the resting hiking days. Beautiful place, good food, welcoming vibe!

We love Colibri Lodge!! The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated - they seem also very new overall. The food was very good and exactly what we needed after the hike to the location! Ssais was wonderful and flexible about so many things. He speaks a fair amount of English and was patient with my Spanish. He will do whatever he can to make you happy and comfortable there. The setting and the view is magnificent and everywhere you turn there are tropical and semi tropical fruit trees and bushes. The family puts in so many hours tending the little green Eden that they have created in a desert canyon.
I spent three nights there, instead of just one, to rest after hurting a shoulder in a fall on the hike and I can't think of a more beautiful place to rest. The hot soaking tub was a great social place to talk with other hikers, and the meals were good. The location is remote, of course, so everything is very basic, but it's everything I needed to make my heart and my tummy happy.
I visited the common area of the lodge next door, which is lovely, too, but they had music going with that constant bass beat and I went back to my place next door, so happy to just hear the wind moving through the trees and the river roaring below. That was the best music. Anybody can put in earbuds and choose the music that they love, without subjecting everyone else to it.
The little grassy area up top, with hammocks and relaxing chairs where I could spend hours just watching the sun move across the dramatic canyon walls is a memory that will stay with me for life.
Two sweet dogs and two of the finest kitties you will ever meet.
