The communication from the friendly hosts, Helen and John was clear and welcoming. The location was perfect for local attractions like Waitomo Caves, and the local restaurants. We enjoyed the breakfast, chatting with the hosts and with other travelers, and the honey-tasting. There was a lovely view of the valley from the shared living/dining area. Parking was convenient and the room was clean with a comfortable bed.

The view from the deck , was breath taking and worth the drive up the road, to find it. We would stay again in a heartbeat the next time we are back in New Zealand. The worm grotto on the property is amazing and was such an added bonus we were not aware of when booking.

We had a room attached to the house but with a fairly private deck. The room isn’t large but fine for a couple of days. Everything was clean. There is a fridge in the room. The closet was good to store our things. We sat and ate on the deck which made the room seem bigger. The house and all the buildings are surrounded by lots of bushes and trees for the feeling of being in a forest. The location is the best - 5 minutes from the cave checkin. There are three places to eat in walking distance. I recommend the General Store.

Our tour of the caves with a local guide was great.
Our tour of the caves with a local guide was great. It made all the difference that it was a local Māori guide telling us the historical story of the caves and those that first offered it for viewing. Our guide was funny and informative.
The walkways were well lit and we felt safe the whole way round.
Our grandchildren 11yrs and 8yrs loved the boat trip in the dark and were mesmerised by all the glow-worms.

On this trip we went with Spellbound Cave Explorer.
On this trip we went with Spellbound Cave Explorer. Went to two caves the first, after a short walkthrough bush we entered the cave and then got into a rubber raft where we were pulled along the underground stream , looking up at the ceiling it was covered with glow-worms. Very pretty & fascinating. After a coffee break we went into the second cave where we saw lots of stalagmites and stalactites and even the bones of an ancient extinct bird, the Moa. The guide was very knowledgeable and told us how the rock formations were formed. An excellent tour.

Stunning stalactites and stalagmite formations. A huge cave.
Stunning stalactites and stalagmite formations. A huge cave. The tour guide was well spoken and clear and sung beautifully to demonstrate the acoustics.
Very clean and spacious walking areas, well supported stairs. Much bigger than imagined. The glow worms were so pretty it was like a stary night sky in the outback. Priceless experience.

Glowworms good.
Glowworms good. Cave formations underwhelming compared to Tasmania and not value for money, tour guides were excellent though.
Village pub and restaurant food was just average but staff were friendly and professional.

We did the Waitomo Cave boat tour in the evening before dinner and the Ruakuri Cave tour the next morning. They both were stunning. Guides were friendly and informative. We heard from another couple on the second tour that they had done several other caves and an exciting adventure (the Abyss if I remember correctly). I want to do that next time.

The caves are fantastic and well worth seeing.
The caves are fantastic and well worth seeing. Harrison was a great tour guide (and has a good singing voice too)
The pathway through is well paved and there are a few sets of steps, but they do have good handrails.
People say that once you've seen glow worms you've seen them all, but you can't quite beat the sheer number of them as you go through the caves on the boat.
If you can avoid the noisy people who can't be quiet when they've been asked to and then don't know what comes next because they weren't listening, this will enhance your trip.

Functional basic detached cabins, clean and warm, what we expected. They are about 30m from a very busy road, so there was traffic noise. There is a house with kitchen lounge and bathrooms. It's on the same site as a large farm shop and cafe so the food was good. The staff were not on site as we arrived late but were easy to contact and helpful.
Didn’t have breakfast sorry, had to get going.
Comfortable room, friendly staff, good services (laundry etc). Great location to caves and somewhere to eat (Tomo’s). Room pre-heated before arrival. V happy
Loved the separate lodges set amidst some beautiful plants. Friendly host and generous breakfast. Ideal location for people visiting the caves and other attractions in the area.
