A perfect, peaceful spot of serenity with a really comfortable bed and a feeling of being secluded that allows you to have a switched off break. We loved the spa, woodfired pizza oven and listening to the birdsong. The hosts have thought of everything - lots of power outlets, kitchen utensils, wifi, ambient lighting...we just wished we could have stayed longer.

Really nicely renovated downstairs unit, the lovely hosts are upstairs and came down to show us around when we arrived. So many thoughtful touches, towels for the beach, a first aid kit, great kitchen utensils, basics like oil and a few spices and an air fryer for quick meals. Cereals, milk, juice and yoghurt provided. They even had a high chair, bibs and a box of toys for my toddler!
Full bathroom including bath and a washing machine. Great outdoor area to sit and relax. Super comfy bed. You could probably walk to the beach and Ohope is only a short drive over the hill. A few minutes drive into town so it's nice and peaceful. Lovely hosts, would definitely stay again.

It was nice to be close to the beach but for the price you pay it's not worth it, no milk tea or coffee, you have to take you own bedding and towels and for the price I could have got a motel or hotel close to the beach for a lot cheaper and wouldn't have had to pack bedding and towels etc.

not many restaurant options are in Thorton itself - you do need to travel to Whakatane. the room itself does have cooking facilities - so bring food with you as you can virtually just stay at Thorton the whole time if you are organised and prepared well enough.
