The property and beds were great, and breakfast was nice. Location was critical for us, as there wasn't much in this area to choose from -- and Aramatai Gardens served just as we needed it to!

Unfortunately, not much. I think there is potential with this property, but it hasn't been well-maintained/managed. I was given (only) a partial refund for our second night as we left after the first night.

This is a farming commercial area close to the Waitomo Caves and cave worms tour. The town is basically two main roads with a few restaurants, stores, supermarket and other services. There is a train stop. We did not use the train for travel. It is only 15 minutes to Waitomo Caves and a good place to start exploring the cliffs along the Pacific Ocean further south.

The Waitomo Caves is a must-see, and there are other attractions close by. We grabbed lunch at the Waitomo General Store which is more than just a store. The Cafe and menu selection is amazing and very reasonably priced.

The garden at the cottage was amazing to explore.
The garden at the cottage was amazing to explore. Te Kuiti has a fantastic Indian Takeaway with a wide range of menu options including a traditional Chicken Tikka Marsala and a toandoor oven to make Naan. Only problem was that we arrived on a weekend and a lot of restaurants nad safes were closed and no shops open (this is normal in New Zealand country areas but not where we come from in Australia). Ladies in the inforamtion centre were very helpful.

We stayed overnight en route from Auckland to New Plymouth so saw little of Te Kuiti, but we saw beauty in the surrounds. We don't recommend taking the bypass route missing Hamilton on a rainy night!
Honestly I was a little worried when we drove up to discover that this hotel was a motel but I didn't need to be. The room was clean and comfy and the windows were gorgeous. The hotel staff was also super accommodating with the late hour we arrived and early hour we left.
