Staff were very friendly and helpful. I needed an extension cord and adapter to plug in my CPAP machine and both were cheerfully provided.

The vibe in the camp site, friendly staff, quiet at night
This was a great town. We stayed at here 2 nights to check out Milford Sound. It was the highlight of our two week trip. Allow plenty of time to get there before your cruise time to stop along the way. We ate dinner twice in Te Anau. One night I had Osso Bucco then pizza and salad. Both were very good.

Te Anau is a pleasant enough town with enough amenities to set travellers up for a trip to Milford Sound. It doesn't have any attractions itself apart from the lake. There is a conservation park for birds, but hardly any to see. It is better to spend a night in Te Anau before visiting Milford Sound as it is much closer than Queenstown, from where many tourists depart.

A lovely little community with easy and relaxed vibes.
A lovely little community with easy and relaxed vibes. Provided a base for us to visit Milford Sound fiord and the Glow worm caves. Several good eateries, supermarkets and playgounds around. This was our second visit after 10 years and it was obvious that the township has grown manyfold in popularity.

Te Anau was a really good stay.
Te Anau was a really good stay. Pretty little town, very friendly, good signposting for those driving. Have to highly recommend the Sandfly cafe! Brilliant we would have lunch there - beautiful sandwiches and coffee and then take away something for tea also. All their food was out of this world!!!! Lovely little town, very relaxed and chilled. Definately be back. Found a lovely little saturday market great for Christmas gifts. Loved seeing the Takahes, great little park.

Good to use Te Anau as a stopping point .
Good to use Te Anau as a stopping point . We drove from Queenstown one day, spent the night , then did a day trip and cruise to Milford Sound. Spent second night in Te Anau so it meant travelling times were minimised. Certainly wouldn’t fancy the bus trip to Milford sound from Queenstown which a lot of people were doing.

The take off point for Milford Sound, so pretty busy.
The take off point for Milford Sound, so pretty busy. The drive to Milford does take at least two hours, allowing for the occasional photo stop. There are a lot of busses and quite a bit of traffic. Some of the more popular restaurants are busy so it pays to book ahead.
A few are closed on Mondays.

Perfect location. We stayed in the newly renovated wing of the hotel. Rooms were lovely. Special shout out to Ashleigh (housekeeping manager) who was so helpful in providing information about things to do in Te Anau and the South Island in general.
Tasman Holiday Park is family friendly, shops and restaurants is a short 8-10 minute walk. The facilities are quite good, they also have hot tubs and a sauna. Lake Te Anau is right in front and great for a morning jog.
The lodge has all the facilities that we needed - good kitchen and an accessible bathroom. Close driving proximity to Te Anau town for dinners . Helen was a great host and very friendly with great local knowledge.
