We stayed in a waterfront apartment (called The Bungalow). It was a fantastic experience. It was directly next to the Duke but not attached. Your own private slice of heaven. You step right out your front door to The Strand,
right out to the Bay. And it is a huge apartment. Large living room/kitchen, large bedroom, and a large bathroom. And all of the hotel amenities at your disposal. This was our favorite room out of five different places. It’s popular. Book it early.
Just a 15-minute walk from Long Beach and 1.2 miles from Tapeka Point Beach, LAST ON THE STRAND, RUSSELL - The BOATHOUSE features accommodations in Russell, with a garden and barbecue facilities.
Russell Apartment - Unit 1 offers accommodations in Russell, a 6-minute walk from Russell Museum and 0.4 miles from Flagstaff Hill.

The apartment was impeccably clean and well serviced with soaps, shampoos, and enough towels for the stay period.
We assumed we would be far away from the busier Paihia, but staying Russell was very nice. Very calm and family oriented. The apartment was close to the waterfront and some historical sites nearby, all within a walking distance (a few steep uphills).
Surrounded by lovely gardens and located on the waterfront, Hananui Lodge and Apartments features accommodations with free WiFi, a private balcony or patio and an LCD TV.

Great location, very helpful owners. The room was spacious, well appointed and clean. It was great having beach and kayak access. The heating and A/C worked well.

Every thing about this place was amazing the location, close to Russell, the folks that own it, were delightful, and accommodation, was beyond comfort.

A lot of things to do from, the tours, to just walk around town, close proximity, of ferry system. I would have liked to chose to stay longer,
did not have enough time. The unit I chose was just at the city, line, and thus close enough, if you forgot anything, takes 5 minutes to go bac,k to Bnb, from city center,

Russell is stunning with beautiful weather and scenery.
A slightly quieter pace of life, with lovely shops and attractions.
The ferry is excellent and the scenic route to go to Whangarei and southbound by road as an alternative, is also very good.
Russell has quick access to Paihia, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, and other places around the Bay of Islands.
Chartered boats are available as well.

Russell is a lovely seaside village.
Russell is a lovely seaside village. It's easy to get around by foot, there are plenty of places for dinner, and for a change you can take the ferry across to Paihia in 5-7 minutes. The Duke is great for lunch or dinner, Butterfish has great breakfast, Hell Hole does great coffee, both supermarkets are convenient. Long Beach is lovely. Flagstaff Reserve is worth a visit.

Russell is a lovely place.
Russell is a lovely place. Took a boat to Hole in the Rock, day was perfect, saw dolphins, native birds. Captain explained the islands and pointed out sights of interest. Restaurants and shops very close. We ate out a bit and never had a bad meal. Lots to do in Russell.

On the recommendation of locals, we visited Long Beach. We enjoyed our visits to Pompellier Mission (cafe anf gardens) The Flagstaff look out, Tapeka Point - where, in Rocky Bay Reserve, there is a small hole in the rock you can clamber out and see at low tide (photo included).

Russell is a very interesting historical settlement in a beautiful location. I also visited Paihia but prefer the vibe and location of Russell. I had dinner at the Duke of Marlborough Hotel. The location next to the bay was sublime, the food excellent. Also visited the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club which I learned was only the second game fishing club in the world (after the Catalina Club in USA. Very welcoming crowd to a fellow angler and great history.

Overall, this property was exceptional. I thought I had booked a basic apartment, considering the price - but the actual property was impeccable. Rooms were recently renovated, fully equiped and comfortable. Host instructions were clear and support when I needed it was amazing. Amenities were great, location was only a few hundred metres walk to waterfront and restaurants. Highly recommended for your stay in Russell.
(NB stayed with 2adults, 2 children: apartment was small but perfect for our stay for a few days!)
Small scale establishment with clean, modern rooms including compact kitchen. No detail or gadget overlooked. Laundry facilities available to guests as well as a hot tub and BBQ area Our hosts were helpful and discreet. Beds super comfortable, generous sized balconies with a fabulous view over idyllic Russell and the bay. Parking on site and a short walk into the village. A great find!
Wendy the host greeted us upon arrival, and very kindly upgraded us as we had a two year old, so he had his own room. The cabin was ideal, good kitchen, comfy bed and the pool was handy too. Washing facilities were handy too. The motel is in a great location and walking distance (5 mins) to Russell. Would definitely stay here again.
Location is perfect overlooking the Russell waterfront.
Breakfast was a delightful, wholesome continental and she even provided gluten free bread for my dietary requirements.
The host was incredible and gave you plenty of privacy whilst also making you feel welcome.
