A very relaxing place to stay. The rooms were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean. The grounds are fun to explore. We had a lovely time cooking and eating our hand-harvested mussels. The glow worms and bioluminescence are magical.

Situated in Lochmara Bay, Lochmara Lodge - 20mins by boat from Picton features free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a garden, a terrace and a bar.

Gorgeous location, 20 mins by private ferry from Picton. On the hillside so the most incredible outlook from all rooms. Owners were fabulous and friendly. Staff were friendly and clearly happy to be there. The property has lots of options for walking. Our kids have grown up but many families were here living their best lives. Wish I had known about it when my kids were little.

Anakiwa 401, hotel in Anakiwa

Located in Anakiwa in the Marlborough region, Anakiwa 401 features a patio. This beachfront property offers access to a balcony, a pool table, free private parking and free WiFi.

Beautiful, peaceful, idyllic location right by the water at Queen Charlotte Sound. We enjoyed walking the last leg of the famous Queen Charlotte track, which was a wonderful, relatively easy track offering superb views. Jumped off the jetty for a swim in the sound and within 2 mins having a hot shower at the apartment. Tanya and Shayne could not have made us more welcome. They clearly enjoy sharing their piece of paradise, and their enthusiasm is addictive. Very comfortable bed, great shower, well equipped kitchen, peaceful sleep. Don't hesitate to book and stay as long as you possibly can. You won't regret it! We've stayed in some gorgeous places in the South Island and this one was our favourite. Thanks so much, Tanya and Shayne

I loved the remoteness of where we stayed, yet the sense of being safe and looked after by the locals. The views and natural environment are sublime. The only permitted way to get here is currently by boat as the road has been damaged by a storm and is only allowed to be used by residents' and service vehicles. This makes it very safe to walk up the road to tracks into the wonderlands the area has to offer. The walks vary from fairly easy to somewhat taxing. Some of the tracks have a challenging gradient if you are not used to walking, and would be more difficult if they are wet. Having said that, we are 'senior citizens' with average fitness and we managed to summit the Onahau lookout (416 meters / 1368 feet) above sea level) and return in one piece.

The peaceful environment and the time to relax in beautiful surroundings. Lovely environment to just chill out and away from stress. Take a tour with Phil through the sounds on his boat. Sports massage with Julie is awesome too.

An unspoilt location to enjoy a break.

An unspoilt location to enjoy a break. The Marlborough Sounds are unique and it takes a little effort to get there, but well worth it to enjoy the tranquillity and all it offers. Lovely clear water to swim or other water sports. Excellent outdoor cafe for evening meal or you can self cater. Portage hotel is close by also had good food.
