Barrytown itself is small but there is a good tavern, All Nations, where you can get a meal, drinks, and friendly local company. It's worth booking a tour with Golden Sands Horse and Wagon Tours for some history of the area and an old-time experience. An easy drive north from Barrytown to Punakaike and Trueman Track or South to Greymouth.

I loved being by the coast.

I loved being by the coast. The venue was quiet (no traffic noise) and there was a very welcome hot tub right by my van. Big double bed very comfortable. Also very handy to Punikaiki Pancake Rocks - a great tourist attraction.

This was a delightful private quirky cottage in a peaceful setting. Was great to see the history of the place in pictures on the walls. Locals very friendly at the pub over the road - 5 min walk. Plus good burgers from there.
