FAQs about hotels in Auckland

Thrilling City of Sails and Volcanoes

Called the "City of Sails" due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbor, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly is a blast!

Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sports events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of Viaduct Harbour.

Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 630 feet!

Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Getting to the city center is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect place to stay for your trip.

We were in Auckland 4 days, including the afternoon we arrived and the day we departed. The first full day, we took the ferry to Waiheke. It was such a wonderful trip there, so easy to walk to the ferry from our hotel, Auckland Pullman. We took the 8:00am ferry and purchased the ride/Hop-on Hop-off bus tour. The bus picked us up right outside the ferry entrance. This was an excellent way to see the entire island and decide what we wanted to do after hearing the bus driver tell us about the island. We ate lunch at Charlie's and then drove to Brick Winery for a wine tasting. We did a little shopping in the main town/beach area and enjoyed some time people watching at the beach. We were back in Auckland by 5:00pm. It was a wonderful day. Day 3, we did a Hop-on Hop-off bus tour of Auckland (discount vouchers available at the hotel). This was a great way to see this fine city. Since we were there in the summer (First of January), we got to see the entire bus tour (red and blue tour), which included additional stops from the winter tour. We saw all the sights along the tour and enjoyed the day very much. A day was perfect to see all the highlights of Auckland. Day 4, we enjoyed a nice breakfast and then headed to the Wharf to catch our cruise ship. Our transfer bus took care of our luggage so we enjoyed time walking on Queens street before boarding time. We found everyone very friendly and welcoming to Auckland. It was a wonderful town to start our tour of New Zealand.

    Auckland Transit!

Auckland Transit! Get a HOP card at the airport, put some money into it, "tag" on and off when you take a bus or train, and you're good. The display will tell you how much remains on the card. Get the Auckland Transit app, which will show you where you are and can be really handy if a fire happns near a train station and you have to make other plans to get there (which we did). Once downtown, the Maritime Museum (walking distance from the Britomart train station) is good. Upgrading admission to include a sailboat ride around the harbor is recommended. On the outskirts, Howick Historical Village, an open-air museum, gives a good sense of early colonial life in the area.

Beautiful city with lovely and warm people.

Beautiful city with lovely and warm people. Lot to do in and around the city. Viaduct harbour is a best part of the CBD. Vibrant, lively and amazing food options. The ferry ride to Wahieke island is a bonus as it leads to a pocket of beautiful small villages surronded by divine beaches. The local cafes and stores are also just wow!! A must visit in Summer!!

Auckland has a lot to see and do, but like any city, tourists should be careful where they go at night. Ubers seem easier to get than taxis. We like the history, museums, and cultural diversity of the city.

Situated in Auckland CBD next to Sky Tower this hotel is as central as it gets. Transport from/to airport is easy with Uber. I reccon the hotel was built in the eighties and got a charm from that period. By that time this 14 story building must have been one of the highest in the neighborhood. The full English breakfast is well done. The rooms are tidy and well looked after. They leave messages if they cant tidy for instance the bed of some reason. Good!
