We really liked the good size of the house and it was nice and warm on a cold winters weekend. The property had all the amenities we needed which was great. Full kitchen set up, heating, laundry, travel cot etc.

Beautiful place, quaint and quirky, with cosy restaurant complete with fireplace and bar. Lester the host was extremely welcoming, made us a great meal and offered suggestions of local walks. Kindly upgraded us to a room with private bathroom as that was available at no extra cost. Loved the massage chair, great place to stay after avalanche peak walk (15 mins drive further up Arthur's pass away from Christchurch but nice to drive that extra portion of road). Cheers Lester!

A very basic old hut, has been tidied up and painted, has everything you need- microwave, air fryer, stove, kitchen utensils, table, chairs. It has the best pot belly wood stove and this makes the cabin very warm and cosy. And also great for cooking on. It was very comfortable. When compared to the price of other cabins it is expensive, but represents reasonable value for accommodation at Arthurs Pass, as accommodation in this area is also very expensive
Arthur's Pass is a 'shadow' of its former self. I first visited in the 1970's and for several decades since it has been a vibrant and busy alpine village boasting several cafe's, restaurants, and accommodation choices - plus a large and informative DoC Centre. Not any more. Very little accommodation choice in the village, and just one cafe open only during the day so you must bring your own food & supplies if wanting an evening meal. And the original DoC centre is closed and moved over the road into a container! All a little sad really, although the surrounding mountain views are definitely compensatory! So fine if planning to use AP as a base for day walks & multi-day tramping expeditions, Otherwise it is hard to justify a stay there other than as an overnight transit stop. As we were. But remember to bring food & supplies for dinner!

Overall I thought the place was great.
Overall I thought the place was great.
We only wanted to have a nice relaxing break in our journey, so we just did some short walking 🚶♂️ tracks to the waterfall ect, the scenery in the area is very good, the place is very beautiful and relaxing. And the Bealey Hotel is a must go to place for dinner with its knockout scenery and top shelf food and drinks.

Enjoyed short walks around Arthur’s Pass village,...
Enjoyed short walks around Arthur’s Pass village, especially the Bealey Valley walk. Visitor’s Centre didn’t have guide books (out of print),so best to plan online in advance. Exciting to see keas in village and at top of pass (Death’s View car park). Wish we could have stayed longer to explore longer trails.

Arthurs Pass is one of those places I love coming back to.
Arthurs Pass is one of those places I love coming back to. Not just for the Kea but also for the drive there, it is magical. It can get very busy in the summer months though. One thing to note. If you are staying the night, there are no shops there to speak of and the cafe is usually only open from 8 to 5 (at the moment 4.30 due to staffing issues). So best to stock up on your food and fuel (!) before you leave either side.

Its a long drive to see devil's bowl waterfall.
Its a long drive to see devil's bowl waterfall.
You can skip this if you already went for milford sound. The hike is short but had to climb several flights of stairs. Mum who is 73yrs gave up at the start. The experience was gd to be upclose to thw waterfall but it is much smaller than ive expected. There are several other hikes along the same paths but we didnt have time nor the energy to try the rest
Extremely Scenic (we fortunately got superb weather - Sunny :))
We stayed at The Tussocks for 2 nights (highly recommend the Tussocks) and did the Devils Punch Bowl and Bealy Spur Track.
Devils Punch Bowl is steep but short, and waterfall is majestic.
The Bealy Spur Track is moderately challenging, not very steep
but has a nagging gradient all the way through to the Bealy Top Hut
which is at 1540m. There was lot of snow near the hut (Mid Sept)
and enjoyed and
played in the snow while it was sunny. The forests, plateaus with Tussock grass are extremely enjoyable to walk and views of the surrounding mountains are stunning from the top.
Took us 2.5 hours to climb and 2 hours to descend for total 4.5 hr return walk. Highly enjoyable. Highly recommended.

A beautiful, cozy cottage set in a gorgeous location. Surrounded by snow covered peaks, rugged landscape, and wildlife. We had Kea visit everyday and we loved watching the rabbits hop around in the evening. The house is in a quiet location giving the peace and rest we needed. It was equipped with everything we needed. Very comfortable house in a gorgeous location. Arthur’s Pass is a delightful village with very generous locals. It is a hiker’s paradise and has become my favourite place in New Zealand.
Really clean and warm facilities. We had a room with ensuite and shared kitchen and dining facilities. While most guests kept to themselves, it was good to chat with a few guests around the main table.
Food at the bar next door and across the road were of solid quality, although we were warned to eat early next door.
Didn't see much of the hotelier, but they were contactable by phone at all times so it helps if you have international roaming or an NZ sim card.
The host was very friendly and efficient. The apartment was a few km from the village but over the road from the Bealey hotel that offered very good dining. The apartment itself is compact and tidy, fine for a couple for one night, but more suited to a single person for longer stays. Wifi was excellent and good streaming services available (but we couldn't work out how to adjust the volume).
Beautiful little lodge situated at the picturesque Arthur's Pass. There are panoramic views of the mountains and the floor heating is divine to shield us from the cold!
Such a cosy stay after a day of heavy rain from the West Coast. It was snowing so hard in the morning so it was wonderful to see and absorb it all.
The location was 2hrs away from airport so was a good. A quiet place with nice open scenery. The room is small and the breakfast spread is simple but suffice for us. It’s was good that hotel has a restaurant as there was no amenities within the vicinity.
