I don’t usually leave reviews, but this place truly stands out! The hospitality is top, and the restaurant serves some of the best classical French cuisine ever seen in the Netherlands, both for dinner and breakfast. The estate is breathtaking, with a gorgeous park surrounding it.

Really there's only one option in Meppel, but pleased to report the City Hotel is well up to standard. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was clean - with a really nice shower. My wife appreciated BBC channels in English on the TV. Breakfast in the morning was delicious - much better than we've had elsewhere in the Netherlands.

Overall cleanliness (the descaled water kettle was a good sign!) Comfy beds and pillows. Quiet even though it's next to the highway. Not big but still spacious. Responsive staff before arrival (in Booking app chat) regarding my questions. Big and small towel per person.

Loved everything. Super friendly hosts. I stayed in the twin room and it was very cozy and clean. Breakfast was great. Location of hostel even nicer than the very centre of the village in my opinion, very calm and peaceful.
