Grand Hotel en Résidence De Draak, hotel in Bergen op Zoom

Grand Hotel and Résidence De Draak is located in the center of Bergen op Zoom and is the oldest hotel and also the oldest company in the Netherlands, dating from before 1397.

Very centrally located, overlooking the central square and close to good public parking (around €25 per day). Nicely turned out public spaces, beautiful bar and lounge and highly regarded restaurant both with terraces on the square. Large fitness center. Our room was antiquely lovely despite the ageing nondescript furniture and the air conditioning worked. There is a Lavazza coffee machine with a couple of complimentary capsules and a kettle, incongruously hidden in the closet along with an iron, ironing board and a small fan we didnt need. The hotel is ideal for exploring the town and is a 20 minute walk from the token beach and rather nice park and wetlands surrounding the small lagoon.

Hotel Old Dutch Bergen op Zoom, hotel in Bergen op Zoom

Hotel Old Dutch Bergen op Zoom is located opposite the main train station. It offers nonsmoking rooms with free WiFi access. Each room here will provide you with a flat-screen TV and cable channels.

I didn't check in. I can't answer the questions. I cancelled my reservation when I found out it was 40 miles from my destination! Totally miss- represented listing. So much for booking on-line! It was listed in the Middelburg, Netherlands choice of hotels and close to the train station. I was also charged extra for a late check in time because of my train travel schedule. When I arrived in Middelburg the hotel was nowhere to be found near the station nor was the name recognized here in this community. When the property was finally contacted by phone it was determined I couldn't possibly get to a place 40 miles from my destination at the late hour. No refund was made.

If you are interested in history Bergen Op Zoom has plenty to offer. Charming old buildings. Market squares where you can sit have drinks and a meal and take in the surrounding area. We have met a lot of friendly people and nothing is too much trouble. It is so good that there English is excellent, therefore, no language barriers.

Cute little city with a bustling town square.

Cute little city with a bustling town square. We arrived on a Sunday and there were tons of people enjoying a sunny day. It's a beautiful city center - the side streets were interesting and it was a great place to walk around for a couple of hours. We stayed overnight at the Grand Hotel de Draak - a very historic and excellent hotel. Check it out!

Bergen op Zoom is a small Dutch town, very beautiful, good walking spots. Very good transport links. Probably not as touristy as the main cities in Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven) but a great town that really needs to go to. Great history

Our family have just moved to live in the area so we had never been previously but were greatly surprised by the variety of restaurants and the shops. Only there for the weekend but will return as soon as we can. Only one bit of advice remember to take comfortable shoes for walking, plus my husband found a store selling vinyl LP's.

Had to cancel our booking 24hrs before due date as both my husband and I tested positive for Covid with several symptoms and our 2 friends were clasified as "case contact". Had a confirmation from the hotel via message service on Booking.com, incl. "price cancelled by property". However, several days later my bank informed me that 198 Euros were taken from our a/c via my card. No invoice/receipt and all messages or even access to messaging service to this hotel disappeared from my client page. Spoke to to the hotel this morning, Was promised a call back in 5 minutes. Still waiting. I cannot even try to claim our lost money on insurance without a proper receipt. That is dishonest.

You don't actually have that much to do in Bergen op Zoom.

You don't actually have that much to do in Bergen op Zoom. It's a really quiet city. There are some celebrations and special dates but nothing fancy. For a daily life is pretty nice. You can walk it really well. There are parks but only one shopping mall (ish). People are really kind and welcoming, since this is a city which don't have tourism as its main income, they try really hard to make you feel home.
