Very lovely and beautiful place in the middle of the jungle. In the morning we were greeted by houwler monkeys that were chilling in the trees next to the house. Teresa was super sweet with our little son and shared a lot with us about her own family history and Nicaragua. Playa Mangos and El Peru in walking distance. Highly recommended, you wont regret it!

Hostal y Restaurante Rancho Merida, hotel in Mérida

With mountain views, Hostal y Restaurante Rancho Merida is situated in Mérida and has a restaurant, room service, bar and garden.

The setting and surroundings are lovely with the cabins and rooms in pleasant gardens. Merida is quite remote and peaceful. The range of activities offered was good, we particularly enjoyed the kayak on Rio Istian. The food was tasty and freshly prepared with generous helpings. Our room was clean, with daily cleaning offered. This place had lots of potential and if you are wanting to stay somewhere remote and away from the crowds then it is both.

Hostal La Cascada, hotel in Mérida

Located in Mérida within 3.3 km of Maderas Volcano, Hostal La Cascada provides accommodation with seating area and a kitchenette.

It was quiet and relaxed at this place. It was just in front of the water. They had a mango tree with tasty mangos. Everyone was very friendly and we could use the kitchen for preparing our meals. We were also able to order food which was very tasty and cheap. We had a motorbike, so transportation was convenient, but without it would be as easy. Our room was clean, we had two fans and enough space for our luggage. The tap water was drinkable. It was filtered water from coming from the mountain 🏔️.

Xalli Beach Hotel, hotel in Mérida

Located in Altagracia, a few steps from Santo Domingo Beach, Xalli Beach Hotel provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

We loved our stay at Xalli Beach Hotel. The hosts (especially Carlos) were super friendly, welcoming, and make sure you had everything you need to have a comfortable stay! The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was great. The restaurant (apart from breakfast) was closed during our stay (I believe due to low season - October), but there were options to order food from a restaurant nearby and eat it in the restaurant at the property, so it wasn’t really a problem. We organised a taxi pick up from the ferry and a scooter rental via Xalli Beach Hotel as well, which worked great! The property is beautiful and you have direct access to the lake (so nice for a lovely morning swim).

El Encanto Garden Hotel, hotel in Mérida

Situated in Santa Cruz, 1.4 km from Santo Domingo Beach, El Encanto Garden Hotel features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

Location in nature. Helpful, charming and friendly attitude of the staff. Lucy and Danny always helpful. Don Carlos an interesting man and good company. The cooks helpful and flexible. Everything I needed they helped me with (ferry, transport there and away, motor cycle, etc). A/c works well. Rooms basic but passable. Nice communal outdoor restaurant/ reception area good for meeting fellow travellers .... and has a wonderful view of Volcan Concepcion. Obviously you need a motor bike to get around the island, but there are actually some nice things within walking distance of the hotel - a supermarket, some bars, a beach (when the water is low enough and not rainy season).

The town was nice, the only thing that could be better is the access since part of the road is still not paved yet, but it was in really good condition, I went in a Hyundai Grand i10 2015 Hatchback, and I was able to go to the Ometepe Biological Field Station, El Pital, Ojo de Agua, We also did the Istiam River Kayaking, it was awesome!!!

You should go to Hotel Omaja with your eyes closed; nothing but great things to say about it, an exceptionally pleasant and beautiful place with a peaceful and friendly vibe from the owners, this is a very family-friendly place (I recommend highly for calm and respectful travelers needing a haven of peace and relaxation). This is not a party destination, it's a place to restore and rest and enjoy the breathtaking beauty while enjoying great food and conversation with the owners.

    The view was amazing.

The view was amazing. The road to get there is really bad, advizing you not to rent a scooter to get there, might fall... Very close to the entrance of the natural reserve for the Maderas volcano climbing.

I liked hearing to howler monkeys at the point and the view of sunsets were amazing. Went to dinner at dos mangoes where the service was unwelcoming. We should’ve stayed and had dinner at hospedaje Gloria! It really helps to have an ATV to get here. I wouldn’t want to do it on a scooter.

It is a nature spot, amazing sunsets, San Roman waterfall!

It is a nature spot, amazing sunsets, San Roman waterfall! I would recommend having a motorbike or quad for being in this area as some of the other cool spots are on a bit of a rougher rode. I had a great horseback ride to a viewpoint of the volcano and lake. The kayaking is very cool as well! Try the homemade coconut ice cream in centre Merida. It’s pretty good, more like shaved ice with coconut but still tasty.
