We stayed one night at the Waterberg Wilderness ONE and a second night at the Waterberg NWR Restcamp. The views from the ONE were outstanding (we were upgraded to the Plateau Lodge), but the lodging costs were much higher. The NWR had surprisingly nice facilities, considering they are state-owned. Staying in either location requires guests to eat there or to self-cater. The ONE location lodging includes breakfast and dinner. The NWR location includes breakfast, with dinner served at the restaurant (ordering from a menu with decent choices).
We did a game drive through the NWR, which was much more affordable, but we did not get to see much (it was the wrong time of the year to see animals at watering holes). That drive is to the Waterberg Plateau, which is a wonderful trip in itself (even without seeing much wildlife). The ONE game drives are more expensive, but go to their own reserve to view rhinos (probably available year-round).

The location is very beautiful both for the Plateau as well as the Valley lodge. There are wonderful hiking trails possible to do without a guide. If you like to hike this is probably one of the best places to explore the Waterberg. We stayed one night, took in the afternoon the Dassie hike from Plateau lodge to the Valley lodge and hiked back, took us about 4 hours including brake for drinks at the Valley lodge. Next day in the morning we made the guided rhino walk.
Great situation to explore the Waterberg area. The Rhino Drive in the afternoon is superb, , giving close encounters with the parks rhinos. This leaves at 4pm and worth arriving at the property early to book this.
The rooms are large but fairly basic with no air conditioning - can get quite warm
Food good but restricted menu
Wi-Fi good in main areas
The hotel is in a very nice Area and You can enjoy great landscape.
We booked the rhino trekking at the hotel. Our guide wesley was a great guy. He did a very good Job and made the trekking a wonderful experience.
