When we checked in we were given two horrible rooms which look out to the street. I asked that the rooms be switched to Ocean front rooms and the hotel agreed. The hotel only provided 3 bottles of water upon check-in and none on the following 3 days. One cannot drink tap water in Mexico so this is unacceptable. The hotel should provide free drinking water. The wi-fi did not work in our rooms at all during our stay, when we told the staff they stated that the hotel had many groups and that for this reason the Wi-fi did not work in any of the two rooms, this is unacceptable, wi-fi should work in the entire hotel and we were paying for that service. Neither of the two rooms had a fridge minibar, which in this day and age is unacceptable. The room bathrooms have plumbing behind the toilet, a screened area which connected to the room next door, we heard the guests in the bathroom and their tv. When housekeeping made up our room they neglected to replace the hand towel. For the price we paid breakfast should have been included. On the one day we had breakfast at the hotel only the fruit and yogurt was good. The hotel charges 250 pesos for breakfast per person which is rather high. The coffee was weak. The wooden pool chairs had no cushions and the chairs were hard. Hotel Caracol is a horrible hotel which I would not recommend.

Mexican beach town attached to a regular city. Lot of tourists so overpriced unless you're rich or American. Mainly Mexican food but European prices. Nice beach but not for swimming as all surfing waves. Taxis will scam you like most tourist areas. Hot and humid when I visited in July August, but I'm sure it's nice in the dry season, but probably even more expensive. The cheap hotels thinks thry are in Cancun with prices twice what they should be.

A sweet, unpolished beach town.
A sweet, unpolished beach town. There are no huge multinational hotels on the beach, just low-rise local hotels and apartments. The strip along the beach feels relaxed, calm and slightly down-at-heel. It's easy to explore on foot. As two solo women travellers, we felt safe throughout our stay, though we didn't leave the tourist area. The beach itself is huge and very long, with incredible surf waves. There is a small beach area at the north end where it's possible to swim, but the waves are still quite big, especially for children. There are lifeguards all along the beach. There are nice restaurants right on the beachfront, all serving the same simple food. We only stayed two nights - I think at least four nights are needed to really relax and get used to the pace of life here. There are also several excursions nearby which would have been fun if we'd had more time!

A huge long beach, Zicatela is a lovely place but will change very soon with all the development and construction going on.
Already lots of bars, restaurants, shops and hotels, but still relatively chilled at the moment.
Beware of what you carry, police search anyone they can on the beach to extort money!!

Even if a relatively small town the neighbourhoods are very different; Centro where the hotel is, more local people, Bacocho (a bit more hipster was my impression), Zicatela the touristic part with a lovely beach and Brisas de Zicatela where its mostly backpackers and surfers (its just off Punta Zicatela where the best waves are)

It grew on me. I didn't love it at first. I think its more suited to younger people than people in their mid 40s + who have already done the backpacking thing. Also I live on a beautiful beach in Australia so it's hard to be impressed by grey sand of Zacatelas beach.. However Carrizalillo beach was beautiful. I recommend visiting that beach while you are there.
I felt like a bit of a sellout as Puerto is not the real mexico, there are more Australians and Americans there than Mexicans it seems. So if you want an authentic Mexican experience you should go to Puebla or Mexico city, but if your looking for a chilled vibe on the beach then you will probably like Puerto.
You'll find better food in other parts of the country also - Oaxaca city, Meixco city, Puebla etc.
It's very hot there. but there's nothing much else to do than hang at the beach.

Overall was great trip. The town feels more international compared to other places I’ve visited in mexico, it lacks that authentic Mexican feeling. The hotel was great, tucked away from the Main Street, very peaceful.

We arrived via bus from.Oaxaca City and they allowed us an early check in. Luis at the front desk arranged multiple excursions for us. Everything was so easy. The location is great, right in the middle of a super cute and safe neighborhood. 10/10 recommend and would stay again.
Very comfortable bed, nice clean spacious room. The owners spoke little english but were very helpful and let us check in early and also stored our bags after we checked out. Good air conditioning and hot water. One if the best rooms we stayed in during our visit to Mexico!
staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a really cool hotel, there’s a great atmosphere and it’s sociable, the rooftop restaurant was amazing, some of the best breakfast food I’ve had in Puerto Escondido and there is a pool bar.
Amazing staff, so attentive and helpful. Loaned us a few things we needed and also organised us a taxi to the bus station very early in the morning. Very comfortable room and AC + fan was nice (and rare for Mexico!).
