At the centre of the Mayan Riveria is Playa del Carmen, a playground for hip Europeans and toned-and-tanned Americans. This resort town showcases the renowned white-sand beaches of the Caribbean Coast along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Playa del Carmen's powdery white sands are nestled between Cancun to its north, Tulum in the south and the island of Cozumel, 20 km east with its fantastic diving in the nearby Great Maya Reef. Awake from an afternoon nap to take a dip, go snorkelling or deep-sea fishing in the beautiful blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Playa is an easy choice as a holiday destination with its range of hotels, many first-class restaurants and beachside nightclubs. Quinta Avienda, also known as 5th Avenue, is the main tourist hub and shopping district. For a more authentic Mexico experience, venture outside of the centre to a local cenote (sinkhole) or Mayan ruins in Tulum.
Cruise ships dock in nearby Cozumel and traffic people to the mainland arriving at the Playa del Carmen Maritime Terminal. If the glimmering Caribbean waters are full, then Booking.com has a huge number of hotels with an outdoor swimming pool by the beach.

A really fun town, felt very safe when for my teens to run around with their friends alone. Beach is really pleasant and wonderful. Every cuisine imaginable is available at all price ranges. Fun activities in the area include ATV, ziplines, jet skis, snorkling, cave swims, Mayan ruins, and more. Great spot to vacation....

We visited Playa del Carmen town for one day.
We visited Playa del Carmen town for one day. The tow is nice but rather comercial, idealy if you are looking for shopping and dinning but at a high price. The beaches in town are crowded and noisy if you are looking for a party place instead of a relaxing and quite place.

There are countless excellent bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. The area is very safe to explore the touristy and local shops. We will be coming back again!

To Booking.com Customer Service Team/Higher Supervisor
I am writing to formally escalate my complaint regarding my recent booking at The Carmen Hotel, which I made through your platform, Booking.com. Despite my payment being made via your platform, I have received no support or resolution from either Booking.com or the hotel regarding my refund request.
The issue stems from an appalling experience during my stay, where the basic facilities of the room were non-functional. Specifically, the toilet in our room was unusable as it could not flush, leaving waste in the bowl overnight until maintenance arrived the next day. Even after their intervention, the issue was unresolved, leaving us without an operational toilet for the duration of our stay.
The staff’s response to this serious health and safety matter was utterly unacceptable. We were instructed to use the lobby restroom, which is both impractical and disgraceful for paying guests. The well-being and comfort of your customers should be a priority, yet the handling of this situation demonstrated a complete lack of concern or accountability.
Since my booking was made via Booking.com, and not directly with the hotel, I hold Booking.com responsible for ensuring the resolution of my refund. I have attempted to contact The Carmen Hotel through email, WhatsApp, and various other communication channels, yet I have received no response. Your platform enables bookings with this establishment, and as such, I believe you share liability in ensuring customers’ grievances are addressed appropriately.
I am requesting that Booking.com immediately involve a higher supervisor to review and resolve this matter, supporting my claim for a full refund.

Playa del Carmen is a resort.
Playa del Carmen is a resort. It is about shopping, eating and the beach … possibly in that order. Not for you if you are looking to commune with nature. Not if you seek to experience the cultural treasures of Mexico. Good for people watching, party times, vibrant nightlife.
I walked almost the entire famous 5th Avenida and found it rather boring and generic. But, from Playa you can get to fantastic places on day trips. Organized tours, car, or even by the ADO bus.

Fantastic location right in the middle of Playa del carmen, one block from the madness of the 5th street. Many restaurants, shops and bars within walking distance.
From outside you feel like you're in a regular city but inside the hotel it makes you feel like you're in one of those bungalow villas in Asia.
The pool area is very relaxing. We got to use the spa for 30 min and it was a nice relaxing experience.
Overall the bedroom is very comfortable.
The hotel is well located. It is perfect if you need to enjoy Playa del Carmen without rush, it is a calm but active area. You will find everything you need but without the noise. The pool is really cool and the staff is very nice. Despite the negative aspect, it is a good value for the price because it is quite cheap. The hotel is nice and well decorated.
The rooftop pool is excellent! We had great cocktails delivered to the pool and the bartender was really kind. It’s a lovely reprieve from the very tourist centre of Playa del Carmen. I did also like that the hotel was a close walk to a great local restaurant.
Very nice hotel in the centre of Playa del Carmen. Very close to the main street. Very clean and very nice big room.
Staff very friendly and always smiling.
Definately I would stay there again if ever go to Playa again
The property is really stylish a boutique hotel in the heart of Playa del Carmen
The jacuzzi is a master for your qualitative time after the beach or excursions
