The modern part of Palenque, which is where gringos congregate,is quite nice with.a decent selection of bars and restaurants at relatively high Mexican prices. The ruins are about 1/2 hour away from town and are well worth seeing. They are quite spectacular. You can take a combi or a taxi to get there. Guides speak multiple languages and you should bargain for the price - around 1000 pesos for the English tour.
About 11/2 hours from town are the waterfalls of Misol Ha where you hike a short distance down a path to see the falls. You can walk behind them and go inside a cave with a lamp to see a beautiful waterfall inside the cave. You can swim there if you dare. Further along the road are the beautiful cascades of Roberto Barrios - 5 levels of waterfalls with beautiful easy swimming pools just outside a Mayan village. This is highly recommended. Also 2 hours away are the waterfalls of Agau Azul.

Palenque has many different sites to visit, including the MisolHa waterfall, was Amazing! Agua Azul spectacular! Weather wise is unpredictable so need to make sure to take un umbrella when going to any outings unless you don’t mind getting wet! Had a great time at the Maya ruins beautiful site took a guided tour and only costs us $250 pesos (Spanish) if you only speak English is more expensive! Plenty of restaurants to choose from delicious gourmet food
We were lucky to get on the Maya train just for the experience and went to the next stop at Boca del Cerro and took a river tour and Guatemala border was just one hour away!! We went across just for about 3 hours bought some souvenirs had lunch and came back

Enjoyed visiting the ruins at Palenque, well worth seeing as they were in more of a tropical setting than some of the ruins we visited around Mexico City and it is still permitted to climb up to the top of some of the ruins. While visiting the ruins it was also possible to take a short jungle walk back down to the entrance. The town of Palenque itself was quite pretty with plenty of places to eat and the people were very friendly and helpful. We also took a trip out to Misal Ha and Agua Azul waterfalls which were interesting and fun as it is possible to swim in these areas.

I didn’t spend much time in the town, I was there for the ruins. Definitely take the tour though the jungle to see the ruins that are still covered with trees. Climb through the ancient Mayan Aqua duct, see the monkeys and try eating some termites. The whole experience in the jungle adds immensely to the site.
My guide was Victor, he speaks Spanish and English, very knowledgeable, well worth the money.

We stayed one night in town to visit the ruins
- had a good coffee
- nice evening walk in the town
- farmacies availeble
The ruins of Palenque was beautifull, due to construction/care-taking we could nog visist al the temples. I was sick at the time, but there were enough toilets on inside and outside the domain.
There is a second part more into the jungle where you can see more wild animals but my body was not up for that. As far as we could understand it does take a tour to do this second part.

Staff friendly and pool and restaurant area really lovely. Its only just outside Palenque yet felt so quiet and tranquil. I liked the little seating areas throughout the complex where you could go and sit in the sun or shade. We had our own private outside seating area with a hammock and surrounded by jungle plants. I booked it last minute and the staff were very accommodating, I would definitely stay again.
It is just a very decent hotel, decent rooms, nice bed and good aircon but nothing extra. The location is very central, but Palenque centrum is not much (you could better be in the touristy area near the busses).
The hotel is very nicely located in a tropical garden; it is only 10 minutes with the car to the archaeological site of Palenque.
There is a pool and a restaurant onsite.
Great to relax after an exhausting day.
Great location for the Palenque ruins and communication for organising tours was excellent. The design of the hotel is in-keeping with the Mayan culture that you’re here to see.
